EAST PALESTINE - The Salem Area Visiting Nurse Association (SAVNA) is offering free blood pressure readings from 1 to 3 p.m. today at East Palestine Public Library.
Hair and nail-a-thon is today MCCTC
CANFIELD - Juniors in the cosmetology program at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will host a special fund raiser, a hair and nail-a-thon, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at The Salon at MCCTC.
Salon services available include haircuts, blow drying, styling, waxing and manicures for $8 each. The cost for shellac manicures is $15.

First United Methodist hosting Banquet
SALEM - The Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. Next week's sponsor is the First United Methodist Church of Salem. The menu offers soup, ham and scalloped potatoes, baked corn, salad, fresh fruit and vegetables, and assorted cakes.

'Twice Loved' book sale scheduled
YOUNGSTOWN - Mill Creek MetroParks will hold its annual "Twice Loved" book sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 15-23 at the D. D. and Velma Davis Education and Visitor Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens. Proceeds from this sale benefit the Maxcine Antonucci Horticulture Library.
Also open is the Seed Library, new to the horticulture library this year. Through this program, aspiring gardeners can "check out" free donated seed for planting in their garden. In the fall after the harvest, gardeners can "return" newly collected seed to restock the Seed Library for next year.

American Legion will interview candidates
SALEM - American Legion Post #56 is announcing that interviews for Buckeye Boys and Girls State at Salem High School begins at 3 p.m. Feb. 21 and 28 in the Salem High School library.
The interviews are open to any junior in the high school. The Buckeye Boys State is 8 June8-15 at Bowling Green State University.
Buckeye Girls State is June 15-21 at the University of Mount Union. Alliance. Information regarding the programs is available in the principal's office at the high school.
Benefit for Gary Bryan is Feb. 22
SALEM - A benefit for Gary Bryan will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 22 in the back room at the Salem Eagles Club, 1884 N. Ellsworth Ave.
Bryan passed away Dec. 30 following a lengthy battle with diabetes. He had no life insurance. Proceeds from the benefit will be used by the family to help pay his final expenses.
The menu offers penne pasta, meatballs, salad, bread and beverages. Cost is $7.50 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under. Carryouts are available. There also will be a Chinese auction, 50/50 drawing, and a bake sale.

Sinus screening assessment offered
BOARDMAN - Otolaryngologist Wayland Wong, M.D. will present an educational program on April 1 at the Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave. At 6:30 p.m., participants can view displays and complete a paper sinus screening assessment.
Dr. Wong's presentation, "New Trends in Sinus Treatment," follows at 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. Participants will have an opportunity to register for door prizes that may be helpful in providing sinus symptom relief.

Spaghetti fund raiser dinner is Saturday
SALEM - The public is invited to a spaghetti dinner fund raiser from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Building, 788 E. State St.
Tickets are $6 for adults and $3.50 for children under 12. The building is equipped with a handicapped accessible elevator. The dinner is sponsored by Faith Court #43.
Tickets remain for 'A Night on Broadway'
SALEM - A limited number of tickets are still available for the fourth annual Hearts and Stars Ball, "A Night on Broadway," at 6 p.m. Feb. 22 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center.
Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Sponsored by Salem Regional Medical Center's (SRMC) Charitable Foundation, the event will feature dinner, a silent auction and entertainment by Mary Jo Maluso and Rick Blackson.
A highlight of the event will be the recognition of Rita Joseph O'Leary as the "2014 Shining Star" honoree. A native of Salem, O'Leary is a dedicated community volunteer.
She has served as co-chair of the International Festival, on the Community Relations Board at FCI Elkton, on the St. Paul School Foundation board and as a past board member of the Salem YWCA. She is a member and past president of the SRMC Auxiliary and currently serves as a member of SRMC's Charitable Foundation.

Fund raiser planned at Alliance Hospital
ALLIANCE - The Alliance Community Hospital Auxiliary is sponsoring a Gifts and Books Are Fun fund raiser from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb.14 in room 1-A of the hospital.
Proceeds will benefit the auxiliary in providing three scholarships annually, in purchasing special needed items for various areas of the hospital, and in paying the salary of the shuttle vehicle driver.

GUILFORD LAKE - An all-you-can-eat fish fry will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Guilford Lake Ruritan Hall on state Route 172 at Hanna Drive.
Benefit rigatoni dinner planned in Beloit
BELOIT - A benefit rigatoni dinner for Christine McCartney will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Beloit Fire Department.
Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 11 and free for under 4. There will also be a Chinese auction with the drawing at 6:45 p.m., the winner need not be present.
McCartney is a 1987 graduate of Salem High School and the single mother of Kaylee and Tessa Wilson.
Last year she was diagnosed with a rare form of gastroparesis. McCartney recently found out that treatments called hyperbaric oxygen therapy could help combat the progression of the disease. Insurance will not cover this treatment, and it can be costly.
