Firefighters Assoc. will meet Wednesday

WINONA - A food distribution will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 22 at the Winona Friends Church, 4615 Whinnery Road. Families and individuals living in the United Local School District are eligible.
'Meet the Coach' dinner, auction scheduled
LISBON - The "Meet the Coach" pasta dinner and Chinese auction, sponsored by the Beaver Local Baseball Dugout Club, will be served from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 4 at the Beaver Local High School cafeteria. The new baseball coach is Beaver Local alumnus Steve Dawson.
The dinner includes meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. Cost is $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and children under 12. Carryouts are available. For more information call 330-843-6935.
United Local presenting 'The Music Man'
HANOVERTON - Tickets are now on sale for the United Local production of "The Music Man" to be presented March 7-9 in the high school auditorium.
Tickets may be purchased in the high school office from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $9 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens.
United Local plans kindergarten registration
HANOVERTON - United Local's kindergarten registration for the 2014-15 school year begins with a parent orientation meeting at 6 p.m. March 11 in the elementary cafeteria, for parents only.
Information will be shared, registration packets distributed and appointments made for screenings on March 18, 19 and 20. Children who are residents of United and who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 are eligible to attend kindergarten for the upcoming school year.
Documents that must be presented at the screening along with completed registration packet are a parent's driver's license or photo ID and proof of residency, the child's birth certificate, immunization record, Social Security card and custody documents if applicable. County Dairy Boosters offering scholarship
LISBON - The Columbiana County Buckeye Dairy Boosters is accepting applications for its 2014 scholarship.
Applicants must be a member of a Columbiana County family whose primary occupation is directly involved in the dairy industry, prove their current enrollment, or submit a letter of admission to a two or four year institution of higher learning or graduate school.
Student must return a completed application, two letters of recommendations, and an official high school or college transcript, postmarked by March 15.
Applications maybe obtained from guidance councilors, FFA advisors, or Columbiana County Buckeye Dairy Boosters, Pam Herron, 3836 Woodsdale Road, Salem, Ohio 44460 (330-222-1637). The winner will be announced at the annual banquet in April.
Benefit rigatoni dinner planned in Beloit
BELOIT - A benefit rigatoni dinner for Christine McCartney will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Beloit Fire Department.
Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 11 and free for under 4. There will also be a Chinese auction with the drawing at 6:45 p.m., the winner need not be present.
McCartney is a 1987 graduate of Salem High School and the single mother of Kaylee and Tessa Wilson.
Last year she was diagnosed with a rare form of gastroparesis. McCartney recently found out that treatments called hyperbaric oxygen therapy could help combat the progression of the disease. Insurance will not cover this treatment, and it can be costly. Proceeds from the fund raiser will be used for the treatment. Benefit for Gary Bryan is Feb. 22
SALEM - A benefit for Gary Bryan will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 22 in the back room at the Salem Eagles Club, 1884 N. Ellsworth Ave.
Bryan passed away Dec. 30 following a lengthy battle with diabetes. He had no life insurance. Proceeds from the benefit will be used by the family to help pay his final expenses.
The menu offers penne pasta, meatballs, salad, bread and beverages. Cost is $7.50 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under. Carryouts are available. There also will be a Chinese auction, 50/50 drawing, and a bake sale.

First United Methodist hosting Banquet

SALEM - A limited number of tickets are still available for the fourth annual Hearts and Stars Ball, "A Night on Broadway," at 6 p.m. Feb. 22 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center.
Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Sponsored by Salem Regional Medical Center's (SRMC) Charitable Foundation, the event will feature dinner, a silent auction and entertainment by Mary Jo Maluso and Rick Blackson.
A highlight of the event will be the recognition of Rita Joseph O'Leary as the "2014 Shining Star" honoree. A native of Salem, O'Leary is a dedicated community volunteer.
She has served as co-chair of the International Festival, on the Community Relations Board at FCI Elkton, on the St. Paul School Foundation board and as a past board member of the Salem YWCA. She is a member and past president of the SRMC Auxiliary and currently serves as a member of SRMC's Charitable Foundation.
