SALEM - John Henry DiAntonio, 85, of Salem, died at 8:40 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Oct. 24, 1928 in Salem, son of the late Dominic and Enrichetta (Zocolo) DiAntonio.
Before his retirement in 1988, he had been a shipping and receiving clerk at the former Deming Crane Company where he worked for 42 years. He later worked as a drill press operator for 10 years at Lowry Supply.
He was a 1948 graduate of Salem High School and was a member and usher of the First United Methodist Church of Salem.
John was known for decorating his front yard for all seasons with decorations he made with his son. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan and was a life member of the Italian American Club.
John enjoyed mowing his yard, family dinners and taking road trips with his wife. He served with the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during the Korean War, stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri.
His wife, Patricia "Pat" (Ehrhart) DiAntonio, whom he married June 14, 1968, survives him along with three sons, Ronny D. DiAntonio of Salem, Randy (Terrie) MacIntosh of Urbana, Ohio and Robby (Judy) Baxter of Mesa, Arizona; a daughter, Theresa (Mike Rosta) DiAntonio of Salem; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, a son, Roddy DiAntonio; and a brother, Felix DiAntonio preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas George officiating. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery with military honors provided by the Salem Honor Guard.
