Traffic stopper

March 10, 2014
Salem News

Salem city electrician Mike Bibbee works on the eastbound traffic lights above State Street at Lincoln Avenue Sunday after replacing the pole that supports the crossbar. Tests on the traffic light poles revealed serious problems at three locations, with the pole at the southeast corner of Lincoln and State considered the most in need of immediate replacement. Bibbee arranged to test the weld strength and wall thickness on 27 poles after one broke off at the base at Broadway and State, sending the traffic lights crashing to the street two weeks ago. Salem Police provided traffic control for the pole replacement. (Salem News photo by J.D. Creer)
