The couple lost their house to a fire on Dec. 27, 2013. Three days later they were in a head-on collision that totaled their car, both sustaining many injuries. Not long after Joe fell while working on the property and tore his rotator cuff, he went through surgery on Feb. 12.

"Joe and Ruth have lost everything and are starting over. They have purchased a vehicle and trailer to stay in while they rebuild themselves a home. Our goal is to raise enough funds to help them with the many bills that continue to pile up."
