LISBON- Richard E. "Rick" Baker Sr., 66, of East Chestnut Street died 7:25 a.m. Saturday at Essex I of Salem following a recent illness.
Mr. Baker was born Sept. 29, 1947 in Salem, a son of the late Carl and Betty (Grimes) Baker, and had moved back to Lisbon in 2006 from North Carolina.
A Methodist by faith, Rick had worked in the maintenance department at Louisiana Pacific for 17 plus years until he retired. He proudly served our country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War, where he received the Purple Heart Medal with two gold stars.
He is survived by his daughters, DeAnn Baker- Burger of Jacksonville, Fla., and Leah (Daniel) Miller of Calabash, N.C.; son Richard Baker Jr. and his girlfriend, Natasha Wiggins of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Rick is also survived by his companion, Cleona J. Matthews of Lisbon, and his half-brother, Ronald (Sharlene) Grimes of Lisbon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jason Baker.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Pamela Gable officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home following the service by the Salem Honor Guard. No calling hours will be observed.
