Cinco de Mayo party set at Salem VFW

'Tribute to Dixie' planned at United
HANOVERTON - United Choir Boosters are sponsoring a musical event, "A Tribute to Dixie" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in United High School auditorium. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Featuring favorite songs from the south, all proceeds will go toward senior scholarships.
Columbiana High art exhibit scheduled
COLUMBIANA - The annual Columbiana High School's art exhibit will be held in the Salchow Room of the Columbiana Public Library during regular library hours May 3-10. Works created by Amy Moreschi's high school art students will be displayed.
Memorial Day activities planned
SALEM The Salem Memorial and Patriotic Association will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at AMVETS Post 45, 750 S. Broadway Ave. Those attending will make preparations for this year's Memorial Day activities.
Sweet and sour chicken featured at Banquet
SALEM - The Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building. Next week's sponsor is the Holy Trinity English Lutheran Church. The menu offers sweet and sour chicken with pineapple over rice, Arkansas green beans, Jello or fruit cocktail, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, and mandarin orange cake.

Simply Silver jewelry sale set in Alliance
ALLIANCE - The Alliance Community Hospital Auxiliary will sponsor a Simply Silver jewelry sale to be held all day on May 6 in the hospital cafe. Proceeds will benefit the auxiliary which raises funds for special needs for the hospital, gives three scholarships each year, and pays the salary of the shuttle vehicle driver.
Hanover spring clean-up day planned
HANOVERTON - The Hanover Township and Village of Hanoverton's spring clean-up recycle day is slated from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 10 at the Hanover Township Hall. Residents may bring scrap, appliances, etc., and tires with no rims. Items not accepted are paint, electronics, organic materials, household garbage and fuel tanks.
Rabies prevention clinic offered in Lisbon
LISBON - A rabies prevention clinic, sponsored by the Columbiana County Health Department and Lisbon Veterinary Clinic, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. May 10 at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center, 9364 state Route 45 South, Lisbon. Cost is $5 per dose for pets that are 3 months of age and older. All dogs and cats must be on a leash or confined in a cage. Rabies vaccination certificates will be issued.
Farmer's Market-Style Resource Fair set
SALEM The Free Farmer's Market-Style Resource Fair will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. May 12 at the Salem Area Visiting Nurse Association, 718 E. Third St. Attendees will learn about valuable senior-oriented products and services and enjoy free fresh fruits, vegetables and a raffle. The public is invited.
Water safety instructor class planned
SALEM - The Salem Community Center is offering an American Red Cross water safety instructor class May 19-30. The class will be held every weeknight from 5 to 8. Cost is $220 for members and $260 for non-members. Upon completion, participants will be able to teach parent and child lessons, as well as learn to swim levels one through six and Longfellows Wale Tales. St. Paul School Spring Fling tickets reduced
SALEM - Due to a generous donation from Butech Bliss, the ticket price has been reduced for the upcoming St. Paul School Spring Fling: A British Comedy Night. The tickets are now $65 for two people.
The donation from Butech paid for the comedian hired for the evening. With that cost eliminated, the St. Paul Home and School Association was able to remove that cost from the ticket price.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul School. Ricky's English Pub will provide the dinner of Beef Wellington and stuffed chicken breast. There will be appetizers, dessert, and a cash bar available.
Various prize packages will be up for auction. The Salem Country Club has donated a Fourth of July package. Troll's Jewelry and Good Looks Salon each provided a large part of the Mother's Day Extravaganza Package, and the Salem Police Department has offered one lucky child an opportunity to be a "Police Officer for a Day" where, among other things, a police officer will come to the child's school and have lunch. There are many other items for auction as well as many gift baskets such as a lottery basket that will be given away via a raffle.
