Golden Street Singers to perform
LEETONIA - The Golden Street Singers will be in concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Leetonia Mennonite Church, 764 Columbia St.
Brenda and Charles Jarvis have been singing southern gospel music throughout Ohio and surrounding states since 2010 and are in their fifth year in the music ministry.
They are hosts of the Victory Gospel Jubilee in North Lima and Heritage Gospel Jubilee in Cortland. They sing original and traditional southern gospel music. The public is invited.
Auto technology students to compete
INDEPENDENCE - Twenty juniors and seniors representing 10 high schools across Ohio will meet in Independence to face-off in the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition from 10 to 11:30 a.m. May 8 at the AAA Office, 5700 Brecksville Road, Independence.
The students will race against the clock to correctly identify and repair intentionally installed "bugs" in identical 2014 Ford Fiestas. After properly diagnosing and repairing the vehicle, teammates must drive their Ford across the finish line, where their accuracy and workmanship will be judged. In addition to receiving scholarships and prizes, the winning team will represent Ohio at the National Finals June 8-10 at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Mich.
Ohio's top automotive technology students competing in this year's state finals include Bruce Gabbert and Zachary Seider (Jim Beardsley, instructor) from the Columbiana County Career Center in Lisbon.
Salem VFW plans breakfast Sunday
SALEM - Salem Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 892 Men's Auxiliary is hosting a public breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday at the post, 496 Arch St. Haystacks, or a traditional breakfast of eggs, pancakes, hash browns, sausage patties, toast, orange juice and coffee, are available. Cost is $5 per meal.
Lisbon Radio Association meeting changed
LISBON - The Lisbon Area Amateur Radio Association has changed its monthly meeting from May 15 to May 8 at 6:30 p.m. due to a scheduling conflict. It will be at the Columbiana County Emergency Management Agency, 215 S. Market St.
Rummage and perennials sale set
WINONA - The Winona United Methodist Church's annual rummage and perennials sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Hall Park on Whinnery Road. Items available include collectibles, clothes, crafts, housewares, holiday items and perennials. Saturday is half-price day.
Book Discussion Group to meet

Federation of Women's Clubs benefit set
SALEM - The public is invited to attend a benefit for the Salem Federation of Women's Clubs. An afternoon tea featuring scones, savories, sweets, and a selection of hot and cold beverages will be served on May 17 at the Ruth Smucker House, 271 S. Leetonia scholarship dinner planned
LEETONIA - The Leetonia High School scholarship dinner banquet begins at 6 p.m. May 22 in the high school cafeteria. Local and regional scholarships will be presented. Tickets for parents and family members may be purchased in the high school office.
"Crafting for Colton" fundraiser set
SALEM - The "Crafting for Colton" fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Saxon Club on state Route 9. This event is being held in memory of Colton C. Koons (Feb. 5, 2013-Aug. 19, 2015). Proceeds go to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome research at Boston Children's Hospital
Activities include a Chinese auction, 50/50 and bake sale. A spaghetti dinner will also be available. Cost is $8 each.
Economic Development Summit planned
SALEM - The six chamber of commerce organizations in Columbiana County are accepting reservations for the 2014 "Teaming for Success" Economic Development Summit to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19 at the Columbiana County Government Services Building on Dickey Road in Lisbon. Updates of economic activity throughout Columbiana County will be given by city and county officials.
Cost is $40 per person for the sessions, a light breakfast and a catered lunch. A business resource roundtable will be featured with participants hearing from organizations that can assist businesses with various needs. Reservations are required and may be made by calling one of the local chambers in Columbiana, East Palestine, Lisbon, Salem, Southern Columbiana County, or Wellsville.
Presentation on cholesterol offered
COLUMBIANA - Columbiana Area Meals on wheels is hosting a 60-minute presentation by Dr. David M. Vitko at 7 p.m. June 5 at Columbiana High School auditorium. Dr. Vitko designed a program that lowered his cholesterol 147 points in four weeks. Tickets are $10 and available in advance by calling 330-482-9550 or 330-42-0366. All proceeds benefit Meals on Wheels.
Salem Library moves children's dept.
SALEM - As part of the Salem Public Library's ongoing renovation project, the children's department has been temporarily moved to the Quaker Meeting room on the first floor of the library. Work on the renovation project is progressing well and, weather permitting, steel and masonry work will begin this week.
