Quakertown Trolley tours
offered for summer, fall
SALEM - The Salem Historical Society, during the summer and fall months, will offer tours on the Quakertown Trolley. The first for the season, at 1:30 p.m. June 22, will be during Salem's Super Nats weekend.
The docent, dressed as a Salem Quaker, will take passengers back in time to 1856. Following the sharing of many stories, the travelers will return to the 21st century with a better understanding of the plight of slaves, the working of the Underground Railroad and the abolitionist movement that flourished in Salem prior to the Civil War.
Since the homes are private and entrances not possible, flashed on a screen inside the trolley will be over 100 slides to show pictures of the insides of the homes, the Underground Railroad hiding places, and several abolitionists who lived in or visited them. The tour lasts approximately 75 minutes. Cost is $10 per person. Call the reservation number at 330-337-6733 and your call will be returned.
