Responds to call at oil well on Whinnery Road

Winona Fire Department was called to a fire at an oil well separator on Whinnery Road just after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. According to Chief George Brantingham, the fire department arrived to find the area smoke-filled but with no fire at the well on the property of Chris Stamp. Upon investigation the well tank was found to have a crack and was bleeding off. At the time of call the fire department was training at Kent State Salem. The department cleared the scene around 9:15 p.m. Hanover Township firefighters who were on Spiedel Road also responded to the scene. (Salem News photo by Patti Schaeffer)
