Winona Strawberry Fest today at playground
WINONA - The public is invited to the Winona Strawberry Festival from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Winona Playground. Barbecued chicken dinners will be served along with strawberry shortcake, pies and ice cream. The Kiko auction begins at 2 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Meeting House restoration.
Strawberry festival slated at Masonic temple July 19
SALEM - Amaranth is hosting a strawberry festival on July 19 at the Salem Masonic Temple, 788 E. State St. The public is invited from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children and free for under 3. The building is equipped with a handicap accessible elevator.
Meals on Wheels to host wine tasting dinner cruise

Salem Masons hold annual installation of officers
SALEM - On June 10, Salem commandery of York Rite masonry held its annual installation of officers at the Salem Masonic Building. The following were installing officers: Rich Brady, installing; Gary Ronshausen Sr., marshall.
The new officers are: Eric Forney, commander, Glenn Adams, generalisimo; Don Jugenheimer, captain general; Steve Ronshausen prelate; Clyde Stratman, senior warden; Lou Harstough, junior warden; Bill Stanley, treasurer; Gary Ronshausen Jr., recorder; Sean O'Neil, standard bearer; Andrew Bostwick, sword bearer; Jim Forney, warder; and Gary Ronshausen Sr., sentinel.
Salem library, parks dpt. to host photography class
SALEM - On Monday, the Salem Public Library and Salem Parks Department will offer a nature photography class as part of this year's "Go Wild at the Parks" programming.
Rich Stelts of Swan Lake Photography will teach, demonstrate and explain basic techniques required and equipment needed to take nature photos at 6:30 p.m. in pavilion #2 at Centennial Park. Participants will be invited to take nature photos at any of the six locations in the Salem Parks system and enter their favorite photo in a contest at 6:30 p.m. July 7 in pavilion #2. The contest is open to all local amateur and beginning photographers and is free of cost. Winning photos will be selected by a panel of judges and published in the Salem News. Prizes will be awarded on July 7.

East Palestine July Fourth activity schedule announced
EAST PALESTINE Activities have been announced at East Palestine Park on July 4. Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. at the community center. Park Board activities start with the pet parade at 10 a.m., bike parade at 12:30 p.m., games for all ages at 2 p.m. and a basketball free throw contest at 5 p.m.
East Palestine Alumni and Friends will host its annual duck derby contest at 4 p.m. at the entrance of the park. A volleyball tournament kicks off at 4 p.m. To register a team call Zac Dunn at 330-853-4990 or Nate Sugar at 506-8122. Teams will consist of five players at $25 per team. Teams may also register beginning at 3:30 p.m. July 4.
Live music starts with Anthony Monteleone at 2:30 p.m., Ben Flint at 3:30 p.m., Sparo and Marlene Figley at 5 p.m., Passin' Thru at 6 p.m. and Chub Scouts at 8 p.m. Sounds by Lucian Clewell play throughout the day. There will be concession stands in the park plus Savvy J's Snack concessions at the pool. Fireworks conclude the evening sponsored by the East Palestine Fire Department.
R-Weigh weight groups reward weekly winners
SALEM - The R-Weigh weight support groups met at 1 and 5 p.m. Monday at the First Friends Church. Gerry Heffinger presided at the afternoon meeting and Patty Miles did a program on "Foods That Beat Bloat." Sue Carver was the goalie for the week and JoAnne Bogdan earned the monetary vacation award. The Salem Sluggers beat the Happy Hitters 6 to 5, winning the baseball game. Second quarter birthdays will be celebrated next Monday with Roni Fauver, Kay Swanson, Sylvia Eller and Annie Katz bringing low-fat, low-calorie foods with recipes. Members are to bring table service and a beverage.
Karen Pauline presided at the evening meeting and Barb Smith did a follow-up to last week's meeting on snacks in the diet. Members are to bring their favorite 150 to 200 calorie snack to tell about and enjoy at the meeting. Pauline Zirkle and Marty Laut were the good losers and Jesse Rea was the goalie for the week. The Disney Divas beat Diane's Diamond Dolls 19 to 18, winning the baseball game. New members are welcome at no charge to visit. For more information call 330-332-1078.
92nd Hilliard family reunion set for July 6 at Centennial
SALEM - The 92nd annual Hilliard family reunion begins at noon July 6 at Centennial Park. A coverdish dinner will be served at 1 p.m. All Hilliard family relatives are invited to attend. Cake and ice cream will be served for supper.
Officers are President Anthony Hilliard, Vice President Erven Hilliard and Secretary/Treasurer Peggy Bergman. John Floyd is table chairman and Stephanie Haines and Molly Cunningham are in charge of games.
