Family fun and safety fest planned
SALEM - Faith Chapel is hosting its annual family fun and safety fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the municipal parking lot on East Pershing Street.
This free event, now in its third year, was set up to reach the Salem neighborhoods with fun and safety education. It allows children to meet police, firemen and first responders. The Columbiana County Drug Task Force will also be on hand to acquaint parents and children about the dangers that drugs present.
A special feature this year will be a visit from a "Barney Fife" look-a-like and an armored Special Weapons And Tactics Vehicle (SWAT).
State Farm Identikits will be available. Other activities designed for children 13 and under include pony rides, a bounce-a-round, games with prizes, face painting, a reptile display from Alchemy Acres and petting friends from the Bonar Farm. Free food and beverages will be available.
Log House open Sunday for car show
COLUMBIANA - The Log House will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday in conjunction with the Ruritan car show. The historical society will have a display of collectible cars in front of the museum including a 2008 Ferrari F430 Berlinetta, Nascar 1934 Ford Coupe Legend, 1969 Camaro Outlaw Limited Street Drag and a 1976 MG Midget car. The Ferrari is owned by Scott Guiler of Salem and the Legend is owned by Bill Clarke of Columbiana.
Blood drive set in Damascus July 15
DAMASCUS - The Damascus, Beloit and Goshen Center Ruritan Clubs are cosponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive from 1 to 7 p.m. July 15 at the Damascus United Methodist Church on Valley Road.
LEETONIA - The Leetonia High School Class of 1976 will hold an informal picnic at 6 p.m. July 26 at the home of Cheryl Dudick-Newhouse, 12528 Lisbon Road. Breakfast buffet set at Salem Masons
SALEM-A public breakfast buffet will be served from 7:30 to 10 a.m. July 26 at the Salem Masonic Building, 788 E. State St. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under age 10 and free for children under 2. The menu offers pancakes, waffles, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, homemade sausage gravy, biscuits, homefries, toast, fruit cocktail, orange juice, coffee and tea.
The building is equipped with a handicapped accessible elevator. Proceeds will be directed to the Salem Masonic Building Fund.
Summer business showcase offered
COLUMBIANA - The Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce invites residents and business owners to attend the summer business showcase at 5:30 p.m. July 24 at Whispering Pines Village, 937 E. Park Ave. The event offers refreshments, networking and brief presentations by Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce members: Southern Care Hospice, Boardman Steel, Gallagher, Clark & Carney Realty Group and East Fairfield United Methodist Church. Concealed carry class scheduled
SALEM - Registrations are still being accepted for the one day concealed carry classes taught by a National Rifle Association certified pistol instructor at the Salem Hunting Club.
Class dates are July 12 and Aug. 9. Cost is $85 and pre-registration is required. Private firearm classes are offered for $30 for a 90 minute session. For complete information go to salemhuntingclub.com.
South Range BOE to meet July 16
BEAVER TWP. - The South Range school board will meet in special executive session at 6 p.m. July 16 in the board offices to discuss bargaining unit contractual matters.
LEETONIA- The Leetonia Community Public Library is asking the community for help completing landscaping work on July 19. The work begins at 9:30 a.m. Bring garden tools and gloves including hedge trimmers, if possible. The landscaping will be a one-day event, weather permitting.
