Audition dates set for "Unnecessary Farce"
SALEM - Audition dates for the comedy "Unnecessary Farce" by Paul Slade Smith are slated from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Salem Community Theatre, 490 E. State St.
This high-paced farce requires a cast of six actors, four men, roughly ages 20 to 50, and three women approximately ages 20 to 40. SCT's production is being directed by Youngstown's David El-Hatten. The show takes place in a cheap motel room, where an embezzling mayor is supposed to meet with his female accountant, while in the room next door, two undercover cops wait to catch the meeting on videotape.
But there's some confusion as to who's in which room, who's being videotaped, who's taken the money, who's hired a hit man, and why the accountant keeps taking off her clothes.
Rehearsals commence the first week of August, and show dates are weekends Sept. 12-21. Those auditioning should come prepared to read from the script and interact with other actors. For more information contact 330-332-9688 or salemcommunitytheatre.org.
