Super Cruise was huge success
To the editor:
The 2014 Super Cruise was a huge success, and I want to thank the volunteers and city employees who made it all possible.
The planning process for the cruise begins in January so many of these volunteers work on this event for over six months to make sure deadlines are met and anticipated results are achieved.
Many thank yous are extended to the following individuals that contributed to our success: Ron Waite, advertising; Mick Orosz, concessions; Tom and Patty Hall, show and shine; Dominic and Mark Righetti, autocross; and Steven Rouse, website and map design.
This year a special thanks is given to Gene Johnson and his Arby's Cruisin' Crew. This group of car enthusiasts, as well as other affiliated groups, provided over 90 volunteers to manage the tremendous amount of show cars and general public traffic that visited Salem over the weekend.
Another huge thank you to Sam Sicilia, whose hard work provided a great increase in our advertising sponsors that necessitated adding eight pages from last year's brochure. He also arranged the K-105 broadcast on Saturday, which was a great success.
For preparing and maintaining Salem's appearance, thank you to the following: the Salem Beautification Committee, the Street Department, Traffic and Safety, the city electrician, Salem Police Department, Salem Fire Department, Columbiana County Sheriff's Department, State Highway Patrol, Salem Police Auxiliary, and the Salem-Perry Township Crime Watch, all worked very hard to make this a safe event for the many thousands of visitors to Salem.
Also, thank you to the Parks Department for the antique car show and use of their bleachers for the autocross. The Salem Regional Medical Center provided water for the cruise attendees.
A special thank you to our Administrative Assistant Debbie Bricker and Auditor Betty Brothers who spent countless hours covering many bases to ensure the overall success of the cruise weekend. Auditor Brothers, along with Mayor Berlin and his wife Chris, Mickey Weaver and her husband Dennis, and my wife Cindy, working as the early morning clean-up crew.
Dan and Margie Engle from BB Rooners provided the use of their business for our WiFi connection to the stage and parking lots and Price2Sell went above and beyond what was expected to make sure our entertainment had the necessary equipment to provide a great weekend of entertainment.
Larry Shields and Mary Ann Greier from the Salem News provided excellent coverage of many of the events throughout the weekend as well as the coverage of the cruise planning throughout the year.
Finally, I want to thank the citizens and businesses of Salem and the surrounding areas for their participation and cooperation, as well as all of the "car cruisers" that made this year's event another very successful weekend. We look forward to seeing everyone at next year's cruise - to be held June 18-21, 2015.
