Merry Christmas

I am tired of the small minority of people who take away the joy enjoyed in celebrating Christmas. The aclu and others believe we need to be politically corect but I say celebrate what ever you want to but as for me and most...we are glad that God's plan happened and I am thankful for it. To my family, friends and everyone in Salem...Merry Christmas! Jesus is the real reason for Christmas.

The Kneeling Santa prayer

The sleigh was was all packed, the reindeer were fed, But Santa still knelt by the side of his bed, "Dear Father, " he prayed, "Be with me tonight. There's much work to do and my schedule is tight. My sack will hold toys to grant all kids' wishes. The supply will be endless like the loaves and the fishes. I can do all these things, Lord, only through You. I just need your blessing, then it's easy to do. I do this only to honor the birth of the One, That was sent to redeem us, Your most Holy Son. So to all of my friends, lest Your glory I rob, Please, Lord, remind them who gave me this job."

Amen.

It’s the most uncomfortable time of the year.

A group of conservatives in Congress do not want Christmas traditions and symbols to recede from public life. They have banded together in their fight to keep nativity scenes on display in town squares and the words “Merry Christmas” in our conversations this season.

Colorado Rep. Doug Lamborn introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives on Friday that would affirm the body’s “sense” that Christmas should be protected.

House Resolution 564, which invokes the First Amendment, posits that references to religion or God should not be prohibited in civic dialogue:

“Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives — (1) recognizes the importance of the symbols and traditions of Christmas; (2) strongly disapproves of attempts to ban references to Christmas; and (3) expresses support for the use of these symbols and traditions by those who celebrate Christmas.”

The resolution has been referred to Committee

15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

MARSHFIELD (CBS) – Maybe it started when the Marshfield School Committee changed the name of the Christmas Break to the Holiday Break. Now, there seems to be a backlash in town.

“It’s a Christmas holiday, it’s a national holiday, not some random holiday,” said one man at the post office today.

Over the weekend, DPW workers put an electronic sign on a friend’s property, right on the main road through the town. And the message? Merry Christmas.

“We work for the town, and we just wanted everyone to be in the Christmas spirit and there are few decorations,” said Steve Barber, a DPW worker.

But apparently, someone complained and sure enough... So the sign had to go.

Is this what we want?

The “five golden rings” are the first five books of the Old Testament called the Torah which are generally considered the most sacred and important of all the Old Testament. The “four calling birds” are the Four Gospels. The “three French hens” are the Three Persons in God or the three gifts of the Wise Men. The “two turtle doves” represent the two natures in Jesus: human and divine or the two Testaments, Old and New. The “partridge” is the piece de resistance, Jesus himself, and the “pear tree” is the Cross.

“The Twelve Days of Christmas” celebrates the official Christmas season which starts liturgically on Christmas Day and ends twelve days later on the Feast of the Epiphany. “My true love” refers to God, “me” is the individual Catholic. The “twelve lords a leaping” are the twelve basic beliefs of the Catholic Church as outlined in the Apostles Creed. The “eleven pipers piping” are the eleven Apostles who remained faithful after the treachery of Judas. The “ten ladies dancing” are the Ten Commandments. The “nine drummers drumming” are the nine choirs of angels which in those days of class distinction were thought important. The “eight maids a milking” are the Eight Beatitudes. The “seven swans a swimming” are the Seven Sacraments. The “six geese a laying” are the Six Commandments of the Church or the six days of creation.

Yep...and the old 1950 Chevy hit a few clinkers on the way. But, it was a wonderful time and Christmas was so special. I really hope and pray we can get back to that wonderful time of joy and peace and celebrating Jesus' birth.

Merry Christmas

I remember the snowy streets and cold as my Dad took me to town to get tangerines for a Christmas treat and listen to him sing Silver Bells...we were not wealthy but rich with love and that's what Christmas should be all about...God's love!

Now that your tummys are full and cookies are being baked and the "global warming grinch" has made it cold, icy, and snowy...are you counting the days until Christmas. Remember those who cannot be home because they are serving to keep the world a safer place. And, don't forget those who are suffering due to a lousy economy. Please pray for God's protection and much love during theses times. Remember, Jesus is the reason for Christmas.

May you not only enjoy a good meal and time with your family but a time of reflection.

I thank God for my family, friends and most especially for Jesus.
