It's a TV network, and they do it for ratings. It's dumb, but it works for them.
National Weather Service issued a statement to their meteorologists this year to never use these names in any product they issue, so all "real" weather outfits are doing their part to make sure it doesn't go beyond media hyping.

People actually watch the weather channel? Seriously? I can understand that there is other junk on there that might interest some from gardening to pollen counts and blah blah blah. But for actual weather reports, alerts and storm warnings? I'm sticking to local weather. As for naming winter storms they are true idiots and it will be a failure idea. As many different storm systems that happen across this nation, they are going to try and name them all. What a joke.

It seems a little stupid for Jim Cantori to be standing out there in the blizzard, hurricane or whatever and telling us how bad it is. If it's so bad why doesn't he just stay inside?
Anything to push the global warming narrative.

I have never seen anyone get so excited about possible bad weather than the weather channel. They seem to thrive on the drama of it all. They also always seem to make more out of storms than there usually is.
