You are correct. I should have said "How else could you explain how tea party nut jobs like Bill Johnson got elected?" Please pardon my error. Thanks, D3

It is a good thing that they do not test all of us posters.

You are right ladybug we are rotting from within and at an alarming increased pace. 25 years ago you did not read in the Salem News much about murders in town, hard drugs or pot bust. Not too many break ins domestic violence charges, crimes in high places but today it is common place. Our society is on a downward spiral and the spiral just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

On the other hand, there was a recent article in Time about college grads not knowing nearly enough as they should. (It was really appalling) They don't teach to a test in college, and yet....

However, in the US all students are tested. In a lot of other countries that score better than we do, only certain students are tested, which skews the results.

I don't believe Americans are dumber as far as intellectual ability goes, but I do think our nation has lost it's vision. Kozy is partly right our education system only teaches to the test to get the excellent grade on the school report cards. Go to just about any retail store and have someone under the age of 40 wait on you and most of the time, if they did not have the register figure it out for them, they have a hard time making change. Todays students spend most of their time learning to be politically correct or how to live in a green society. The other part is the moral fiber of our country has deteriorated to the point, people just don't seem to care. Why should they someone will give them what they need. Working to improve ones self is the mindset of precious few people these days.

Our education is now directed out of Washington by those who would decides what's best...both scary and wrong. The results show how bad an idea that is!

Washington or the federal government is only there to protect us and as they infringe, we the people lose. It has to be stopped and given back to the states and locals.
