There are ways to put term limits in place without them even being part of the vote, other than their citizen vote like anyone else. In fact, there is an organization putting that together as we speak--we'll see what comes of it. Shouldn't stop at term limits though, pensions as well. It's one thing to be a cop and get a pension, you know an actual job, someone who is HIRED to work for the government and that's part of the deal. But we stopped treating ELECTED officials as public servants, and that needs to come back. Even more so at the local level, local governments are full of pension padders. They aren't there for the right reasons.

But really...does anyone believe that those who are in congress will term limit themselves?

That's the way it was envisioned. Part-time politicians that go home after a term or two. Not Part-time pols with full-time pay.

Career politicians are one of the reasons DC isn't working.

I say Washington. Although he is more known for his Military contribution, he was a very wise and principled man to just do the job for one term and then ride off into the sunset to return to his wife and his farm.

William Henry Harrison. He wasn't in office long enough to screw up anything.

History is so important. I believe there would be fewer laws if only people really understood...politicans would still be representitives...the Constitution would still be alive and well. But alas, we let a few in Washington, D.C. change us all and certainly for the worse.

Washington lived through the over reach of a king and his absolute power...where he, the king, could establish his own laws and rules and taxes w/o the people being represented. He, Washington, fought for us...so that we might never return to that power grab. So that we the people would be protected. No other President had so much and yet had such foresight and courage. We sure could use another Washington but could he be elected...could Lincoln...could Reagan?

Considering what in total he had to deal with, Washington was probably the best. But, since history keeps getting rewritten and often changed to meet various agendas, we may never appreciate everything that our forefathers did to give us the greatest country on earth...the question is whether we will just let it be destroyed.

I haven't been able to decide yet, but I have it narrowed down to either Lincoln or Other. I rule out Washington because it was his military service rather than his presidential service that is of historical significance. I rule out FDR because his chicken-in-every-pot scheme has backfired and we are all now stuck with an immense big government welfare state.
