Is the person that wrote this question stupid or just trying to stir the pot? How many people are going to read it and think it will effect their "refund" instead of their "rebate." There will be a line on your 2008 tax return where you can claim a rebate. Most of us are getting our rebate now instead of later, so yes, it will effect the rebate we receive next year (we won't get it twice). However, people that didn't qualify for a rebate with the information on their 2007 tax return could qualify with their 2008 tax return should their circumstances change. Those people will then receive a rebate. The rebate you received is not taxable and it is not to be reported as income. It has no bearing on how much you will owe or be refunded with your 2008 tax return. But how many people will read my post and still think the government pulled a fast one on them?

The stimulus rebate has no effect on your 2008 tax return. Why is this newspaper starting rumors to upset the public. You will do anything to stir up trouble.
