Quakers come up short against Red Dragons, 11-5

Niles 11, Salem 5

NILES-Ryan Lett had three hits and double and James Tate had two hits to lead Niles past Salem 11-5 on Saturday.

Jordan McGuire and Brenden Webb each had two singles for the Quakers and Max Wolfgang had a double.

Salem drops o 7-8 overall, while Niles improves to 11-5.

The Quakers will host Louisville on Tuesday.

SALEM-Jordan McGuire pitched six innings and struck out six to lead Salem past United 7-6 on Friday.

The Quakers scored three in the fifth to rally back from a 4-2 deficit.

Garrett Beech went 1-4 with a double and Matt Salmen went 1-3 with a double to lead the Eagles.

Massillon at West Branch

BELIOT-West Branch pulled out a dramatic 7-6 last at-bat win in game one of a doubleheader Saturday against Massillon and then turned around to blow out the Tigers 15-1 in game two to complete the sweep at West Branch High School.

In the first game, the Warriors fell behind 5-1 in the fifth before rallying back. Dylan Greenwalt had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh, while Jerian Thomas went 1-2 with a double and 3 RBI and Kip DeShields went 2-4 with 2 RBI. Jeff Vizzaso pitched a complete game for the win.

In game two, the Warriors scored six runs in the third and six in the fourth to end the game early. Beau Taylor and Ryan Adams each went 2-4, with Taylor getting an RBI, while Greenwalt had a double and 2 RBI.

With the sweep, West Branch improves to 7-9 overall. The Warriors are 4-4 in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.

Eoghan Bees had two hits and 4 RBI for the Tigers (11-2, 8-0 ITCL upper tier) while Joe Wrask and JoJo Caraballo had three hits apiece. Sawyer Stevens earned the win with a complete-game 12-strikeout effort.

Mike Raschilla led the way for McDonald with two hits. The Blue Devils fall to 9-3 overall.

Tyler Baird pitched six innings, striking out six for his first win of the season. Greg Dunham and Bill Goodall also contributed a double apiece for the Raiders (12-3, 8-0 ITCL upper tier).

Minerva drops to 3-12 on the season. South Range will travel to fellow upper tier unbeaten Springfield on Monday.

Matt Spencer hit a two-run homer and Jordan Everett hit a solo blast for Lisbon.

Crestview at Sebring

SEBRING-Crestview swept a doubleheader from Sebring on Saturday, withstanding a late Trojan rally to take the first game 6-4, and then winning the second 14-4 in five innings.

In the first game, used a balanced attack to sreadily build a 6-1 lead before Sebring scored three in the seventh to make it close.

Andrew Batchelor, Austin Eskra, and Brandon Jayne all had two hits for the Rebels, while Dylan Hart had two RBIs.

In game two, Eskra led the Rebels both at the plate and on the mound, going 3-4 with three RBIs, while pitching five innings and striking out eight to earn the win.

Jake ferris also contributed three hits and three RBIs for the Rebels in the second game, while Zach Thompson and Josh McGoogan each had a pair of runs driven in.

Crestview is now 11-5 overall and 6-3 in the ITCL upper tier.

RAVENNA – It was an afternoon of offense for the West Branch softball team as they beat Ravenna Southeast 20-6 and 15-0 to sweep a doubleheader on Saturday.

In game one, the Warriors fell behind 5-0 in the first inning before roaring back with 12 unanswered runs, highlighted by an 8-run fouth inning.

Bailey McElwain led the way with a home run, a triple, and five RBIs. She was helped out by Reagan Rito, Cheyenne Miller, and Jeni Stewart who all had three hits apiece. Rito and Stewart each had two RBI.

West Branch wasted no time in the second game, scoring eight runs in the first and six in the second to remove all doubt.

McElwain once again led the way with a homer and three RBIs. Miller and Stewart each chipped in three hits, while Sarah Weber was 2-3 with two RBIs and Kaylie Lewis had a double and an RBI.

Ravenna Southeast falls to 5-9 overall, while West Branch improves to 14-3. The Warriors will play at Minerva on Tuesday.

STRUTHERS – Crestview combined for a total of four home runs in a two-game sweep of Struthers on Saturday at Mauthe Park.

In the first game, Alexys Brooks blasted a home run, while Sydeny Davis had a single and double and Bri Cope had a single and two RBIs in the Rebels’ 5-1 win.

In the second game, Davis had a home run and double with two RBIs, while Anna Hardenbrook added two doubles and a home run in the 8-5 Rebel win.

Bri Cope added a home run and two RBIs.

Crestview is 12-4 and hosts Jackson-Milton on Monday.

NEW MIDDLETOWN-Hailey Somers hit a two-run homer in the first inning to propel Springfield to a 5-1 win over Jackson-Milton on Friday.

Sami Semach gave up a run in the first inning but was able to blank the Bluejays the rest of the way to earn the win. The Tigers improve to 10-5 overall and 7-2 in the ITCL upper tier.
