Raiders sweep Champion Invitational
CHAMPION – The South Range boys and girls track teams each took home comfortable victories at the eight-team Champion High School Invitational on Thursday.
The boys totaled 136 points behind four-time winner Andrew OLeary and record-setting Tim Nichols.
Nichols set a stadium record in winning the 1600 run (4:41.7) and a meet record in taking the 3200 run (9:53.4).
OLeary took first in the 200-meter dash (a meet-record 22.8) and 400 dash (52.6) and ran on two winning relay teams.
The Raiders also had first places from three relay teams Adam Meloy, Joe Alessi, Jake Aruffi and OLeary in the 800 (1:35.9); Adam Meloy, David McCabe, Jake Arsuffi and OLeary in the 1600 (3:41.1); and Patrick McCarthy, Cole Krumpak, Ben Stebelton and David McCabe in 3200 (8:48.3).
Garfield was second with 120 points and Champion third with 106.
The South Range girls piled up 146 points, followed by Garfield with 102.
Winning for the Raiders were Mollie Pierson in the 1600 run (5:40.2); Andrea Oliver in the high jump (4-feet-10); the 800 relay team of Kameron Hobbs, Ashley Shetter, Emily Moretti and Raianne Mason (2:00.2); the 1600 relay team of Kameron Hobbs, Mary Claire McCarthy, Mollie Pierson and Raianne Mason (4:31.2); and the 3200 relay team of Mollie Pierson, Matti Dunham, Madelyn Kimpel and Mary Claire McCarthy (10:39.8).
