Parks finishes third at warm-up meet

HEBRON – United’s Allison Parks is starting her senior cross country season the same place where her junior season ended – on the podium at National Trail Raceway.

Parks finished third out of 155 runners at the OHSAA Early Season Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. She completed the 3.1-mile race in 20 minutes, 12.39 seconds.

Parks took 13th place at the Division III state meet last year.

Alter senior Alex Groene was first in the Section D race Saturday (19:25.31) and London senior Sarra Taylor was second (19:38.39).

United junior Natalie Gamble finished 56th (23:58.68).

In the Section B boys race, United senior James Kataro was 25th (17:52.67) and United junior Vincent Zehentbauer was 108th (20:19.47) out of 206 runners. Northwestern senior Shane Berger was first (16:31.70).

The Minerva boys competed in the Section F boys race.

Kings topped 21 teams with 79 points. Minerva was 15th with 392 points.

There were 177 runners in the race with Turpin sophomore Alaeldin Tirba winning in 16:23.43.

For Minerva, sophomore Alec Mueller was 40th (18:32.89), junior Duncan Freeland 56th (18:54.39), senior John Hartwig 96th (20:01.14), junior Garrett Spardy 105th (20:35.38), freshman Seth McGee 130th (21:35.22), sophomore Jacob Martin 155th (23:48.01), junior Martin Merrick 157th (23:59.68) and senior Cameron Canonico 163rd (25:35.04).

Minerva also ran in the Section H girls race, finishing 15th out of 17 teams with 402 points. Four-time defending state champion Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary had five of the top 11 runners to win with 35 points and Carrollton was sixth with 174 points.

For the Minerva girls, junior Emmalee Carver was 65th (23:49.02), sophomore Lindsey Brust 82nd (24:40.94), sophomore Morgan Studer 103rd (25:53.71), freshman Nora Yankovich 105th (26:07.80), freshman Reiley Cowart 107th (26:17.75), senior Casey bates 131st (28:39.55) and sophomore Libby Zurbrugg 136th (29:21.62).

Butler freshman Emma Bryant won the race in 19:41.52.

Carrollton had a pair of high finishers on Saturday.

Freshman Maddie Dunlap was second (19:47.07) in the Section H girls race, while junior John Brown was sixth (18:34.23) in the Section E/F boys race.

The cross country season will conclude at National Trail Raceway with the state meet on Nov. 2.
