Salem slips by Canton South

CANTON – A late fourth-quarter rally for the Salem boys basketball team propeled the Quakers to a 67-65 victory over Canton South in Northeastern Buckeye Conference action Friday.

Down by three with 28 seconds remaining, Max Wolfgang scored a layup as he was fouled, and tied the game on a free-throw, which set up for D.J. Pullie to score the game-winning shot with 2.5 seconds left.

“We pressed a guy, and then we got the ball to Pullie and scored,” Salem coach Rich Hart said. “We are improving and look to continue to do so as the season progresses.”

Pullie led the Quakers with 20 points while Wolfgang added 18.

The Quakers are 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the NBC this season.

Canton South (5-5, 3-3) was led by Matt Nicoletti with 22 points followed by Garrett Crum with 12.

Canton South won the junior varsity game.

The Quakers head to Liberty on Tuesday.
