Columbiana shuts down East Palestine

EAST PALESTINE-Columbiana blew out East Palestine 66-27 in non-conference action Thursday. Baylie Mook led Columbiana (17-2) with 21 points four rebounds and five steals. Bri Gingher totaled 16 points and four steals and Aleah Whitacre had nine points, seven rebounds and six steals for the Clippers. Lauren Schlueter also had seven rebounds and four steals.

Kelsy McKim had six points for the Bulldogs who fall to 2-16.

Columbiana won the jayvee game 61-8. Haley Tohm, Mariah Rovnak and Megan Goehring all had 10 points for the Clippers.

Both teams are in action Saturday. Columbiana hosts Wellsville at noon. The Clippers can clinch a share of the Inter-Tri County League lower tier title with a win. East Palestine is at Lisbon.

South Range 66, Poland 42

POLAND-The South Range girls basketball team used a big second quarter to leap past Poland 66-42 Thursday.

Morgan Czopur nailed four three-pointers to finish with a game-high 24 points. Starla Sharp and Sara Durr each finished with eight points as the Raiders improve to 18-3 overall.

Theodora Constantine led the Bulldogs with 18 points.

South Range won the jayvee game 38-28. Taylor Naples led the way with 18 points. The lone remaining regular season game for the Raiders is Saturday at Mineral Ridge. South Range can clinch a share of the Inter-Tri County League upper tier title with a win.

Lowellville 61, Western Reserve 45

BERLIN CENTER-After surging to a surprising first quarter lead, the Western Reserve boys basketball team succumbed to Lowellville 61-45 Thursday.

The Rockets got 22 points from Nick Ballone and 18 points from Paolo DePasquale as they took the lead in the second quarter and steadily pulled away.

Ryan Diem had 14 points for the Blue Devils, while Lance DeZee and Nolan Snyder each had 11 points.
