Six garner state mentions

COLUMBUS – Columbiana junior Baylie Mook and United senior Mackenzie Gatchel highlight area representatives on the 2013-14 Associated Press All-Ohio girls basketball teams released Tuesday.

Gatchel and South Range senior Starla Sharp received special mention in Division III, while Mook and Western Reserve junior Aleah Hughes got special mention in Division IV.

Honorable mention went to South Range sophomore Morgan Czopur in Division III and Sebring senior Kelsi Settle in Division IV.

Mook, the Columbiana County co-player of the year, led Columbiana to a school-record 23 wins and a share of the ITCL lower tier title. She averaged 19.0 points, 5.1 steals and 5.0 assists a game.

Gatchel, a key during United’s successful run during her career, averaged 14.0 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Sharp and Czopur were the top scorers on a South Range team that set a school record with 23 wins, won its first district title since 1998 and claimed a share of the ITCL upper tier crown. Cozpur averaged 17.0 points and Sharp 14.2 points a game.

Hughes, who averaged a team-high 16.5 points, sparked Western Reserve to its best season ever as the Blue Devils finished 20-7 with its first regional berth and a share of the ITCL lower tier title.

Settle led the Trojans to a 13-11 season as she averaged 17.8 points and 10.0 rebounds a game, both team highs.
