BASEBALL: Raiders clinch outright ITCL upper tier title

HANOVERTON-The South Range baseball team clinched the outright ITCL upper tier title with a 12-1 win over United on Wednesday.

It is the Raiders third straight conference championship and second staright outright title. The Raiders (17-3, 12-0) have won 33 straight conference games.

Bill Goodall powered the Raiders with a three-run homer, while Josh Fromel had three RBIs.

Also for the Raiders, Zach Thorpe, A.J. Melnick and Dylan Keller all had two hits, while Tyler Rothbauer pitched a one-hitter.

Matt Salmen had the only hit for the Eagles.

South Range hosts Lisbon in a doubleheader on Saturday.

COLUMBIANA-Kaden Davis had a two-out game-tying RBI in the seventh inning and Josh DeSalvo scored the winning run on a passed ball as Crestview upset Springfield 9-8 in baseball action Wednesday.

Crestview improves to 6-8 overall and 5-5 in the ITCL upper tier. The Rebels scored four runs in the seventh inning.

Springfield loses its third straight game and falls out of contention for the ITCL upper tier title.

For the Rebels, Jake Ferris was 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored, Joel Fitsimmons was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two steals and Dylan Hart was 2 for 3 with two runs.

Ryan Kohler had two hits and three runs scored for the Tigers.

LISBON-Lisbon beat Columbiana 11-5 in baseball action Tuesday.

Eric Walker had two hits, including a double and three RBIs, Matt Spencer had two hits and an RBI and Avery Andric had a single and two RBIs for the Blue Devils (8-7, 5-5 ITCL upper tier).

Columbiana falls to 1-13.

Jake Smith had two hits and two RBIs. Jerian Thomas had two hits and an RBI.

COLUMBIANA -Joel Fitzsimmons’ sixth inning score on a squeeze bunt gave Crestview the 10-9 victory over Columbiana Tuesday at Crestview High School.

Fitzsimmons, Jake Ferris and Kaden Davis each had two RBIs to lead the Rebels, who improve to 5-8 overall and 4-5 in the Inter-Tri County League upper tier. Chris Bryan picked up the win on the mound as he struck out one, and Michael McDonough picked up the save.

Keenan Green led the Clippers (1-12) with a hit.
