SOFTBALL: Salem stops Springfield

NEW MIDDLETOWN – Hannah Carner struck out seven for Salem as the Quakers knocked out Springfield 7-3 on Thursday in a Mahoning Valley Invitational game.

Kari Seddon led the Quakers with an RBI single along with two singles from Raegan Meals and Sarah Smith.

Emily Stacy led the Tigers and Cori Wade led the Tigers with a double each, while Josie Applegarth struck out six.

The Quakers host Louisville today.

HANOVERTON – Jackson-Milton stopped United 8-1 in an Inter-Tri County League upper tier contest on Thursday.

United is 4-17 and 3-8 in the Inter-Tri County League upper tier.

United hosts Mineral Ridge twice on Saturday.

Sydney Moats had two hits for the Eagles. Kassie Chestnut added a double.

BELOIT – Jeni Stewart had three hits including a double with two RBIs while Allie Garrett had three hits in West Branch’s 7-3 win over LaBrae on Thursday.

WELLSVILLE-Devyn Flory went 5 for 5 with a home run, a triple and five RBIs as Lisbon downed Wellsville 13-2 in softball action Thursday.

Flory’s homer was her third of the season as the Blue Devils improve to 6-11 overall.

Also for Lisbon, Hannah Hiscox had three hits, including two triples, and four RBIs and C.J. Wallace pitched six innings for her first varsity win.

Mystic Beatty led Wellsville (3-12) with two singles.

Lisbon hosts Springfield today.

COLUMBIANA-Madison Roessler had two doubles, two singles and six RBIs as Columbiana walloped Cardinal Mooney 14-0 Thursday.

Sierra Ross chipped in two singles and three RBIs for the Clippers (17-2).

Mooney drops to 8-6 overall.

Columbiana plays Hubbard today at Springfield High School as part of the Mahoning Valley Invitational.

EAST PALESTINE – Alexys Brooks’ three-run home run lifted Crestview over East Palestine 12-7 on Thursday.

Anna Hardenbrook also had a home run for the Rebels, along with RBIs from Bri Cope and . Sydni Davis picked up the win as she struck out four.

Sadie Walker, Jess Leake and Holly Siracuse led the Bulldogs (2-13, 1-9) with two singles, while Carson Rutledge struck out three on the mound.

The Bulldogs head to Alliance for a doubleheader Saturday.

LEETONIA – Emily Schneider struck out ten for Leetonia as the Bears sent back Lowellville 15-1 in five innings for their second win of the season.

Christy Eckman led the Bears with two doubles and a single, followed a double and three singles from Taylor Bean and a single and double also from Schneider.

The Bears improve to 2-10 overall and 2-9 in the Inter-Tri County League lower tier, and heads to Lowellville today.
