SOFTBALL: Springfield soars over Lisbon
LISBON – Josie Applegarth struck out nine as Springfield beat Inter-Tri County League upper tier rival Lisbon, 20-3, in five innings Saturday.
Lindsay Druschel led the Tigers (9-7, 9-4) with five RBIs along with Taylor Johnston’s three RBIs.

ALLIANCE – East Palestine managed one more win before tournament time in Saturday’s doubleheader with Alliance.
Carson Rutledge struck out five for the Bulldogs to pick up the 11-8 victory in nine innings in the first game. Sadie Walker drove in two runs, while Holly Siracuse and Syd Smith each drove in one.
In the second game, the Bulldogs dropped a 13-1 decision in five innings.
Jess Leake led the Bulldogs with a RBI single along with Callista Bartosh’s two hits.
The Bulldogs head to Atwater Waterloo on Monday for the Division III sectional tournament.

South Range at
NEW MIDDLETOWN – Jordan Youngs’ grand slam and Stevie Taylor’s shutout highlighted South Range on the final day of the Mahoning Valley Invitational on Saturday.
The duo helped South Range blank Hubbard, 7-0, in Satuday’s opener before the Raiders dropped a 2-1 decision to Canfield.
Youngs had three hits and five RBIs against Hubbard. She hit a grand slam to finish off a five-run seventh inning and also had a double.
Caragyn Yanek added two hits.
Taylor scattered two hits and struck out nine for the victory.
With South Range leading Canfield 1-0, the Cardinals scored two runs in the fifth inning on an error to rally.
Taylor collected three hits, including a home run in the fourth inning for the Raiders’ lone run.
Yanek took the loss despite tossing a four-hitter.
South Range wraps up the regular season with a 21-5 record. The Raiders will open sectional tournament play Tuesday by hosting the Campbell-Mooney winner.

West Branch at
NEW MIDDLETOWN – West Branch took two games Saturday at the Mahoning Valley Invitational at Springfield High School.
Maddie Pidgeon stole home in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Warriors the 4-3 victory over Warren Harding.
Pidgeon also had an RBI, along with RBIs fro Jeni Stewart and Allie Garrett, while Catie Metzgar struck out two, and Sarah Weber picked up the save in the seventh.
In the second game, Bailey McElwain’s three hits and Bailey Byers’ two hits lifted the Warriors over Girard 6-2. Sarah Weber picked up the win as she struck out two.
The Warriors improve to 15-4 and host Salem on Tuesday.

NEW MIDDLETOWN – Columbiana took two games Saturday at the Mahoning Valley Invitational at Springfield High School.
The Clippers beat Brookfield 10-2 in the first game as Navi Kaur had three RBIs along with Sierra Ross’ three singles, while Madison Macklin struck out two to pick up the win.
In the second game, a seventh inning single from Kaur allowed Lauren Schlueter to score and lift the Clippers over Salem 4-3.
Kaur also had three singles along with two singles each from Madison Roessler and Elise Hammond, while Holly Gotthardt picked up the win as she struck out six.
For the Quakers (5-18), Rylee Meals had a single and a double and Kari Seddon and Haley Carner had two singles each, while Hannah Carner struck out four.
The Clippers head to Western Reserve on Monday.

NEW MIDDLETOWN – Western Reserve picked up two Saturday at the Mahoning Valley Invitational at Springfield High School.
Aleah Hughes struck out eight as the Blue Devils shutout West Jefferson 4-0 in the first game. Maddie Kreitzburg and Marley Oles each had an RBI.
Meanwhile, Kreitzburg hit the game winning grand slam in the seventh inning as the Blue Devils knocked off Girard 6-2 in the second game.
Hughes and Oles also scored home runs, along with a double each from Jenny Stubbs and Sydney Miller. Kreitzburg also picked up her ninth win of the season as she struck out one.
The Blue Devils improve to 16-2 on the season.
