Clipper golfers start off with win

COLUMBIANA – Columbiana downed South Range, 148-162, in Tuesday’s season opener at Valley.

Four Clippers shot in the 30s as Bruce Wiggins shot a par 35, followed by freshman Jared Wilson with a 36, Griffin Williams 38 and Joe Lucci 39.

For South Range, Ryan Turnbull had a 39, Tom Roux 40, Randy Skirpac 40 and Brooks Thomas 43.

Columbiana will host United at 2 p.m. today.

Columbiana 173, Western Reserve 220

COLUMBIANA – Columbiana’s girls golf team bested Western Reserve 173-220 on Tuesday at Valley.

For Columbiana (1-0), Alexa Tringhese had a 39, Ally Moreschi 42, Elise Hammond 44 and Tori Bucci 48.

For Western Reserve, Katie Henderson had a 47, Emily Henderson 54, Sarah Gray 55 and Taylor Thomas 64.

Columbiana plays in the Lakeview Invitational today.

East Palestine 154, Beaver Local 169

NEGLEY – The East Palestine golf team improved to 3-0 with a 154-169 win over Beaver Local at the East Palestine Country Club on Tuesday.

Topping the Bulldogs were Ryen Kemp with a 37, Phil Gerner 38, D.J. Bandy 39 and Andy Ellis 40.

For Beaver Local (1-1), Joey Newlin had 38, Quintan Carr 39, Duncan Hildenbrand 46 and Jeramy Morgan 46.

East Palestine will play at Crestview on Thursday.

Tri-County Golf Tournament

PARIS – Beaver Local’s girls golf team came in eighth place out of 18 teams with a 413 on Tuesday at the Preseason Tri-County Girls Golf Tournament at Pleasant View Golf Club.

Dover won the tournament with a 344. Canton Central was second with a 353. Minerva took third with 362.

Michelle Vlacovsky of Canton Central Catholic was medalist with a 72.

For Beaver Local, Taylor Plunkett had a 96 and was a second team all-tournament selection. Bekah Kyler had a 101, Reed McGeehan 104, Carsyn Hoppel 112 and Lauren Plunkett 119.
