Raider girls take team title

HEBRON – The South Range girls cross country captured the team title in the first meet of the season Saturday at National Trail Raceway. They would do anything to repeat that in the last meet this year.

Five Raiders finished in the top 27 in Division III as they topped the 15-team field at the OHSAA Early Season Cross Country Invitational.

The South Range girls were first with 67 points, followed by Liberty Union with 110 points.

The Raiders are hoping to return to National Trail Raceway for the state meet on Nov. 1. Junior Mollie Pierson reached state as an individual last season.

Top finishers for South Range were Pierson, fourth (20:46.51); sophomore Xena Maali, fifth (20:50.60); junior Madelyn Kimpel, 11th (21:33.88); junior Emily Fromel, 24th (22:19.98); sophomore Kelly Patrick 27th (22:23.42); Lauren Herubin, 44th (24:35.62); and sophomore Sarah Spaulding, 61st (25:15.00).

Tuslaw junior Bethany Koons was first (19:59.12) out of 110 runners.

In the Division II girls race, five-time defending state champion Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary won the team title with 65 points. Carrollton was 10th with 315 points and Minerva was 22nd with 591 points.

Lexington senior Domini Clairmonte was first (18:32.17) and Carrollton sophomore Maddie Dunlap was fifth (19:50.23) out of 214 runners.

Lexington junior Domini Clairmonte was first 18:32.17.

In the girls open race, Fort Frye sophomore Mary Kate McElroy was first (20:36.00) out of 151 runners.

South Range runners included sophomore Kaitlyn Francis, 80th (25:42.60); freshman Michelle Macinga, 85th (25:56.10); sophomore Ann Gulfo, 86th (25:57.74); sophomore Lydia Baird, 100th (27:02.36); sophomore Maria Razo, 102nd (27:22.00); sophomore Adrianna DeLucia, 135th (31:17.90); sophomore Hannah Standley, 140th (32:14.70); and senior Olivia Wince, 147th (34:25.47).

In the Division II boys race, defending Northeastern Buckeye Conference champion topped the 23-team field with 67 points. Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary was second with 97 points. Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary senior Joe Rossetti first (16:32.29) out of 204 runners.

Minerva finished 17th with 392 points.

For the Lions, senior Duncan Freeland was 50th (18:07.18); junior Alec Mueller, 70th (18:34.65); freshman Jarrett Yaccobucci, 83rd (19:00.87); Garrett Spardy, 86th (19:04.61); sophomore Wyatt Kohl, 132nd (20:35.38); sophomore Seth McGee, 143rd (20:57.65); senior Zane Zeedrich, 169th (22:15.53); junior Jacob Martin, 180th (23:12.09); freshman Finn Billiter, 182nd (23:18.80); senior Martin Merrick, 193rd (23:58.11).

South Range featured two top 26 finishers in the Division III boys race.

For the Raiders, junior Ben Stebelton, 24th (18:22.63); freshman Ian Pierson, 26th (18:27.94); senior Garrett Anderson, 38th (19:13.11); junior Jordan Gregory, 84th (21:11.99); junior Brian Patrick, 85th (21:14.76); freshman Zachary Kemmer, 109th (22:01.96); freshman Solomon Weiss, 112th (22:06.42); freshman Simon Weiss, 113th (22:09.77); and senior Dillon McBee, 139th (23:34.00); junior Caleb Chaffee, 157th (26:06.20).

Valley View senior Zach Bussard was first (16:43.00) out of 170 runners.

The South Range boys were 10th out of 21 teams with 238 points. Lincolnview won with 63 points.
