West Branch falls to Devils

BELOIT-For the second straight season-opener, the West Branch football team was handed a sizable defeat by Crestwood, as the Red Devils beat the Warriors 49-26 Friday at West Branch High School.

The Warriors grabbed an early lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by Justin Stowe late in the first quarter to make the score 7-6.

Crestwood responded with three unanswered touchdowns to make it 28-7 in the third quarter, but running back Rob Lozier gave the Warriors a spark with a 55 yard touchdown run to make it 28-14.

West Branch quarterback Corey Snyder kept the Warriors within shouting distance with with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Kip DeShields and a 4-yard strike to Logan Nagy. DeShields finished with seven receptions for 114 yards.

However, the Red Devils iced the game with two touchdowns in the final five minutes.

The Warriors (0-1) travel to Crestview (1-0) next week.
