Fillman leads Eagles over Bulldogs

EAST PALESTINE – United’s boys soccer team secured its third win of the season with a 5-2 victory over East Palestine on Wednesday.

Riley Fillman led United with three goals, while Zebediah Zentbauer and Blake Montgomery each had one goal. Spencer Widlicka registered six saves for the Eagles.

The Eagles are 3-2 (2-1 in the Inter-Tri County League) having continued a pattern of following up lopsided losses with wins. The Eagles’ two losses were by a total of 12 goals, while the winning margins have been by a total of 11 goals.

United lost to ITCL leaders South Range 10-2 last Wednesday.

The Bulldogs were led by one goal and one assist by Josh Fristik, while Jamie Molnar had one goal and Ben Frazier had an assist. Aaron Hayes had 11 saves in goal for the Bulldogs.

The Eagles are back in action today at home against Crestview.

East Palestine is 0-4-1 having dropped the last four by a 31-3 margin. The Bulldogs will try their luck at home today against South Range.

Salem 4, Alliance 1

ALLIANCE-Marissa Swindell recorded three goals as the Salem girls soccer team sped past Alliance 4-1 Wednesday.

Sydney Green chipped in the other goal for the Quakers (3-3), while Jenna Lyons had an assist and Katie Moore had three saves in goal.

Salem travels to Hickory on Saturday.

West Branch 7,

Canton South 0

CANTON-The West Branch girls soccer team romped over Canton South 7-0 Wednesday.

Aliza McConnahey led the Warriors with two goals, while Melinda Trimmer had one goal and two assists and Bailey Polinori had two assists.

Also for the Warriors, Amanda Tilley, Kendall Briceland, Haylee Biery and Aly Benedetti each had one goal. Briceland also had one save in goal.
