Salem boys deliver at district meet

CORTLAND — The Salem boys cross country team is making a championship run.

The Quakers captured their first district title in 11 years with a balanced team effort in the Division II district meet Saturday at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds.

Salem scored 100 points, followed by Poland with 105.

The top six teams and top 24 individuals qualify for the Boardman regional next Saturday.

Sophomore Trey Double led the Quakers by finishing seventh out of 115 runners. Double completed the 3.1-mile course in 17 minutes, 31 seconds.

Following him were senior Josh Andrews in 12th, freshman Cameron Christopher 22nd, freshman Hunter Christopher 28th, senior Collin Zimmerman 34th, sophomore Jackson Corbisello 37th and senior Josh Cannon 54th.

It marks the first time the Salem boys team qualified for regionals since 2005, when the Quakers won their third straight district title and repeated as Division II state champions.

The Salem girls finished sixth in the Division II girls meet with 125 points. The top four girls teams and top 16 individuals advance to the Boardman regional.

Just missing regional berths for the Quakers were sophomores Megan Griffith and Haley Rozeski, who were 18th and 19th, respectively.
