Shivers sets Notre Dame record

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — University of Notre Dame senior Anthony Shivers broke his own school record in the men’s weight throw at the Meyo Invitational on Friday.

Shivers, who was a two-time state discus champion at Salem High School, finished sixth with a personal-best toss of 66-feet-6 on his sixth and final attempt. It is the fourth-best throw in the Atlantic Coast Conference and 28th-best in the country this season.

“I had a good week in practice, so I was expecting some better results — better than previous weeks,” Shivers said. “That was a good mark. I was happy with where I was at. It’s an important step going forward. It’s nice getting back in stride as we head into the postseason.”

Indiana junior Andrew Miller won at 69-7 1/2, breaking the school record he set last week.

Forty-two schools competed in the weekend event at the Loftus Sports Center.
