Heartland thwarted by Southern

SALINEVILLE–Southern polished off Heartland Chrisitian by a 70-10 score in girls basketball action Monday.

Six different players scored in the first quarter for the Indians (6-15) as they raced out to an 18-0 lead that grew to 40-1 at halftime.

Anna Sevek keyed the Indians defense with nine steals and also finished with 14 points. Riley Felton added 13 points, while Stella Karcher had 11 points and five assists.

For the Lions (1-15) Sarah Keyes knocked down a pair of threes to finish with six points.

Southern wraps up the regular season at home Wednesday against Toronto.

EAST PALESTINE — East Palestine used a 14-point fourth quarter to overcome Lowellville 32-30 on Thursday.

Sadie Walker paced the winners with 10 points. Sara Buskirk had seven boards, while Marlaina Frye had six points and three steals.

East Palestine also won the jayvee game, 31-7. Kenzee Johnson had 10 points for the winners.

NEW MIDDLETOWN–The Springfield girls basketball team fell to Valley Christian 54-48 Monday.

Taylor Coy led the Tigers with 16 points, while Ellie Centofanti had 12 points. Nikki Bovo added 10 points.
