Bears lose early lead, opener

LEETONIA — Leetonia couldn’t make a two-run first inning hold up as Campbell Memorial rallied for a 4-3 win in Saturday’s season opener.

The Red Devils fell behind 3-0 before rallying with Deena Diamandis’ game-winning RBI double in the sixth inning.

Jana Jackson went 2-4 to lead Campbell.

Kalie Eastek had a double, a single and a run for the Bears. Emily Hupp added a double and a run, Kristy Eckman an RBI single and Lissie Lorch drove in a run in the third inning.

Leetonia will play at Lordstown on Tuesday.

Northwest at

West Branch (DH)

BELOIT — West Branch held off a pair of late comeback attempts to defeat Northwest 6-3 and 10-7 in its season opener on Saturday.

Kylie Coffelt picked up the victory in the first game. She allowed three runs on four hits, three walks and struck out five. Bailey Byers led offensively with a single, triple and an RBI. Delaney Rito tallied a single, double and an RBI. Peyton Alazaus, Grace Heath and Maddie Pidgeon had two hits each.

In the second contest, Kelsey Byers pitched the Warriors to a victory. She struck out eight hitters and allowed one walk in the complete game. Bailey Byers led offensively again with a home run, double and four RBIs. Pidgeon collected three hits, including a double, and one RBI. Rito had two hits and an RBI.

The Warriors stay home to challenge Poland on Monday.

COLUMBIANA — Crestview opened its season with a dominating 12-2 victory over Liberty in five innings on Saturday.

The Rebels trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning before scoring 12 unanswered runs.

MacKenzie Daub picked up the victory, striking out six and walking none in five innings. Daub also collected a double and an RBI. Brittany Coblentz led offensively with a single, double and four RBIs. Haley Eskra had a hit and two RBIs. Trinity Boston Whitney Cope and Baylie Bettura each tallied an RBI.
