BOYS STATE SEMIFINALS

DIV. II

Akron SVSM 62, Trotwood Madison 60

COLUMBUS (AP) — Jayvon Graves scored the last of his 22 points on a baseline drive at the buzzer to give Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary a 62-60 win over Trotwood-Madison in a boys Division II semifinal Thursday.

St. Vincent-St. Mary (24-5), last season’s runner-up, will play Wauseon on Saturday in Columbus as the Fighting Irish seek their seventh state title.

St. Vincent-St. Mary held the ball the final 27 seconds to set up the shot after Jonathan Williams stole the ball from Torrey Patton. A jump ball ensued and St. Vincent-St. Mary had the possession arrow, which enabled Graves to get his first points in 12 minutes.

Patton, the Associated Press Division II co-player of the year with Graves, had 34 points and 11 rebounds for Trotwood-Madison (26-3).

Wauseon 42, Eastmoor Academy 35

COLUMBUS (AP) — Brooks Gype scored 14 points and made a key basket to help Wauseon to a 42-35 win over Columbus Eastmoor Academy in a boys Division II semifinal Thursday at Value City Arena.

Wauseon (27-1) goes for its first state title vs. Akron St. Vincent on Saturday in Columbus.

Gype put back a missed free throw by Austin Rotroff with 1:20 to play to give Wauseon a 37-33 lead. After a missed Eastmoor Academy shot, Carter Bzovi made two free throws to give him 13 points and the Indians a 40-33 lead with 9.5 seconds left.

Taevion Kinsey had 15 points for the Eastmoor Academy (22-7) Warriors, who scored six points in the final 35 seconds of the third quarter to take a 25-24 lead.

COLUMBUS (AP) — Cleveland Heights Lutheran East outscored Delphos St. John’s 21-0 in the third quarter to break open a close game for a 50-25 victory in a boys Division IV semifinal Thursday at Value City Arena.

Wellington (22-7) led by 18 early in the fourth quarter but Perry (24-4) closed to within 56-46 before Guy Schmidt scored six straight points, then fed Dustin Harder for a dunk to make it 64-46.
