Salem held scoreless to NBC powerhouse Marlington

SALEM — Salem dropped a 6-0 decision to Northeastern Buckeye Conference rival Marlington on Wednesday.

Salem falls to 1-2 this season.

Ricky Enlow, Turner Johnson and Dillon Bickerton all recorded a hit for the Quakers. Johnny McCoy struck out eight hitters in five innings but took the loss.

Salem travels to Marlington on Friday. The Salem junior varsity team fell to the Dukes 11-1 in its season opener Wednesday.

NILES — A six-run fourth inning lifted Western Reserve to a 7-1 victory over LaBrae at Eastwood Field Wednesday.

Wyatt Larimer picked up the win for the Blue Devils, striking out seven in five innings. He also recorded two hits and three RBIs at the plate. Ryan Demsky pitched two innings of relief and tallied an RBI and two runs scored.

Western Reserve travels to Columbiana at 5 p.m. today.

EAST PALESTINE — Marshall Huddleston made sure East Palestine got off to a good start.

Huddleston tossed a one-hitter and struck out 13 in the Bulldogs’ 3-0 season-opening win over Lowellville on Wednesday. He allowed only a second-inning single to Dom McLaughlin.

Trevor Kimmel went 3-for-3 with a run to lead East Palestine’s offensive charge. A.J. Stewart went 2-for-3 and Dustin Bourne contributed an RBI singles.

East Palestine will play at Leetonia today.

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana opened its season with a 2-1 victory over Jackson-Milton Wednesday.

Mitch Davidson and Keenen Green each tallied a single and an RBI. Chase Franken struck out 13 hitters in his complete game victory.

Columbiana hosts Western Reserve at 5 p.m. today.

NEW MIDDLETOWN–The Springfield baseball team rolled past Sebring 12-2 Wednesday.

Brannon Brungard had three hits and four RBIs for the Tigers. Shane Eynon and Russ Seymour each had doubles, while Tyler Miletta scored three runs.

LISBON –The Beaver Local baseball team got its first win of the season by downing Indian Creek, 12-7, at the Career Center Wednesday.

The Beavers improve to 1-3 overall.

Chase Wilcox led the Beaver Local offense by going 3-for-3 with an double and an RBI. Chris Yanni added a double and and two RBIs, while Zach Boni had a single, a double and two RBIs. Nick Wolski chipped in two hits and an RBI.

Beaver Local is at Edison Friday.
