Salem’s crazy week continues

SALEM — Louisville, ranked fifth in the Div. I state poll, held Salem hitless in its 9-0 victory on Thursday.

Salem went seven innings with Louisville for only the second time in the series history. Kirsten Wharmby tossed the no-hitter.

Salem hosts West Branch today.

LISBON — Autumn Oehlstrom powered Lisbon with two home runs during the team’s 13-7 victory over Lowellville Thursday.

Lisbon improves to 6-8 and travels to Crestview today.

Oehlstrom also recorded a triple and five RBIs. Devyn Flory had two singles, two runs scored and three RBIs. Kimmi Wiggers tallied a single and an RBI in her first game this season.

BELOIT — West Branch took it to Northeastern Buckeye Conference foe Minerva 12-4 on Thursday.

West Branch improves to 12-4, 6-1 in the NBC, and travels to Salem today.

Bailey Byers led the Warriors with a home run, two triples, a single and two RBIs. Grace Heath tallied a triple, double, single and an RBI. Maddie Pidgeon and Kelsey Byers had two hits apiece.

For the Lions, Amber Hume had two singles, a double and an RBI. Maddie Phillips collected a double and an RBI.

COLUMBIANA–The Columbiana softball team used an eight-run third inning to roll past Howland 16-1 Thursday.

Kennedy Fullum led the charge for the unbeaten Clippers (13-0) with two doubles, a single and five RBIs. Taylor Ross added two singles and two RBIs, whileMorgan Highley had two singles and an RBI.

Columbiana is at East Palestine today.

BERLIN CENTER–Layla Woolf hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the sixth inning to lift Western Reserve past East Palestine 6-4 Thursday.

Woolf finished with three hits and four RBIs as the Blue Devils improve to 6-3. East Palestine drops to 4-6.

Taylor Hostetter had an RBI double for the Bulldogs, while Sara Buskirk had a single. Haliegh Blatt added two hits for Western Reserve.

East Palestine hosts Columbiana today.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.–Hope Thomas hit a go-ahead single in the top of the ninth to propel South Range past Spring Mills (WV) 8-7 in the Grand Strand Classic Thursday.

Thomas finished with two singles as the Raiders improve to 8-3 overall.

Madison Weaver added three singles and two RBIs, while Codi Taylor tripled, singled and drove in a pair of runs. Felecia Gaeta finished with a double and a single.

The Raiders are back in action today against Poca (WV).
