James lifts Raiders with game-winning single

GREENFORD — South Range squeaked by St. Thomas Aquinas 2-1 in a Div. III sectional final on Wednesday.

South Range improves to 17-5 and will face Crestview in a district semifinal on Tuesday at Cene Park in Struthers.

Brycen James drove home Brandon Youngs with a game-winning RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jared Bajerski had the Raiders’ first run scored in the first inning. Bajerski and Randy Skripac had two hits apiece.

Lordstown 1

LISBON — Caleb Glover and Domanick Michael combined for a no-hitter during Southern Local’s 12-1 win in five innings over Lordstown in a Div. IV sectional opener on Wednesday.

Southern improves to 7-9 and will travel to Lisbon today in a sectional final.

Michael also recorded a two-run double at the plate. Ethan West, Hunter Babb and Andre Sloan had two singles and two RBIs apiece.

Lordstown scored its lone run in the first after a leadoff walk, stolen base and two groundouts.

CANTON–The eighth-seeded Springfield baseball team gave top-seeded Canton Central Catholic its best shot, but fell to the Crusaders 5-4 in eight innings in a Div. III sectional final Wednesday. The Crusdaders, who are the defending district champions advance to take on fourth-seeded Cardinal Mooney in a district semifinal at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Cene Park in Struthers.

The Tigers finish the season at 10-10.

Sebring 10,

Leetonia 0

SEBRING–Leetonia was bounced from the tournament with a 10-0 loss in eight innings to Sebring in a Div. IV sectional opener Wednesday.

The eighth-seeded Trojans advance to take on top-seeded Western Reserve in a sectional final at 4:30 p.m. today at Western Reserve High School.

West Branch 12,

Canton South 6

CANTON–West Branch took care of Canton South 12-6 in Northeastern Buckeye Conference action Wednesday.

The Warriors improve to 18-7 overall and 9-3 in the NBC. Canton South falls to 6-17, 5-8.

Jon Snyder, Brant Alazaus, Cole Bates, Seth Schroeder and T.J. DeShields all had multiple hits for the Warriors.
