Stansbury suffers TKO

OKLAHOMA CITY — Josh “The Sandman” Stansbury of East Liverpool didn’t make it out of the first round at Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Fight Night 112 on Sunday.

Jeremy ” The Grizzly” Kimball of Colorado Springs, Colo., scored a technical knockout at 1:21 of the first round of the light heavyweight bout at Chesapeake Arena.

Stansbury (8-4, 1-2 UFC) got in a couple of blows before being Kimball (15-6, 1-1 UFC) got him with a right hand behind ear. Kimball got in more right hands on the ground before referee Mario Yasmasaki stopped action.

Stansbury entered the fight as nearly a 1/2 favorite, meaning if you bet $2 you would win only $1 if he won.

Chester moves to 5-0

EAST LIVERPOOL — The Chester Old-Timers baseball team improved to 5-0 on the season Sunday with an 8-1 win over Springfield at East Liverpool High School.

Mike Logston, Dave Smith and Brian Wright each had two hits for Chester.

Bill Sattler was the winning pitcher with relief help from Dave Staley.

Chester will play Hubbard at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hubbard High School.

Posada makes Old Timers’ debut

NEW YORK (AP) — Jorge Posada peppered line drives around the Yankee Stadium outfield, first from the left side, and then the right.

The switch-hitting backstop seemed plenty comfortable to one of his old teammates — a soon-to-be Hall of Famer, no less.

“Tim Raines, he said, ‘You look like you can play,'” Posada recalled. “I said, ‘There’s no way, man. They’re throwing too hard right now.'”

Posada, a 17-year major league veteran, had no trouble catching up Sunday. He, Raines and 31 other former players gathered at Yankee Stadium for the 71st Old Timers’ Day, Posada’s first since retiring after the 2011 season.

The five-time World Series champion called it “strange” to strap on the catcher’s gear, but he seemed at home behind home plate. Posada attended this year at Tino Martinez’s urging.

“I want to be here for the fans,” Posada said.

Posada, Don Larsen and Whitey Ford got some of the biggest ovations, and Raines wasn’t far behind.
