Passport to Fishing
SALEM — The Passport to Fishing program for beginning anglers ages 6-15 will be held at 9 a.m. July 8 at Salem City Lake.
The program consists of four stations that are 15 to 20 minutes in length including casting, fishing knots and rigging, fish habitat and handling, and local information.
Participants will receive a rod and reel (based on availability) and bait will be provided.
This program is free and sponsored by Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife and the Salem Parks and Recreation Department.

Strader places twice at Ohio Senior Olympics
WESTERVILLE — Randy Strader of Salem took second place in the shot put and third in the discus at the Ohio State Senior Olympics at Otterbein University on Saturday.
Strader, who competed in the 70-75 age group, has been member of the United States Masters track and field team since 1984.
Two Youngstown Phantoms drafted
CHICAGO — The Youngstown Phantoms were well represented at the NHL Draft with two players selected Saturday.
Affiliate player Jack Rathbone was taken by the Vancouver Canucks in the fourth round with the 95th overall pick. The Harvard University recruit played four games with the Phantoms this past season, talying an assist.
Michael Karow was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the fifth round with the 126th overall pick. The Boston College recruit played 58 games with the Phantoms this past season, collecting four goals and 17 assists.
The Phantoms have had at least one player drafted into the NHL the past four years.
