Clippers continue strong start

COLUMBIANA — The Columbiana boys improved to 5-0 Wednesday with a 163-205 win over Wellsville at Valley Golf Club.

Jared Wilson topped the Clippers with a 1-under 34, followed by Seth Ross 41, Nate Whitehead 43 and Sean Whitehead 45.

For Wellsville, Trey Click had a 45, Shawn Osborn 49, Luke Green 52 and Justin Talbert 59.

Columbiana will play at East Palestine next Wednesday.

Cardinal Mooney 177

COLUMBIANA–The Columbiana girls golf team edged Cardinal Mooney 174-177 Wednesday at Valley.

Taylor Ross paced the Clippers with a 40, while Taylor Bucci recorded a 44. Abby Rambo and Abbi Hawkins each shot 45.

The Cardinals were led by co-medalists Hadley Spielvogel and Jayne Bernard, who each shot 39.

The Clippers (3-0) face Austintown Fitch today at Salem Hills.

Marlington 163,

West Branch 173

ALLIANCE –Marlington topped West Branch 163-173 on Wednesday at Tannenhauf.

For West Branch, Nick Pidgeon had a 40, Ryan Sox 41, Brett Blickensderfer 45, Brant Alazaus 47.

Lisbon 183,

United 209

GUILFORD LAKE — Branson Brownfield shot a 35 to lead Lisbon to a 183-209 victory over United on Wednesday at Twin Springs.

Also for Lisbon, Sam Tinsley shot a 45, Austin Craig 49 and Josh Entrikin 54.

For United, Shane Black had a 43, Michael Bardo 53, Jacob Himes 55 and Brant Hahlen 58.

South Range 156, Springfield 191

COITSVILLE–South Range rolled past Springfield 156-191 in golf action Wednesday at Bedford Trails.

South Range’s John Popa was the medalist with a 38. Also for the Raiders, Tom Roux and Ryan Turnbull each carded 39s, while Pat Kennedy had a 40.

For the Tigers, Eric Swansinger had a 45, Koby Fellows 48, Madison Horvath 49 and Dillon Schiadone 49.

Briggs records ace

EAST LIVERPOOL–Beaver Local golfer Brooke Briggs recorded a hole-in-one on the par 3 eighth hole during Wednesday’s match against Canton Central Catholic at Turkana Golf Course.

Briggs used a pitching wedge. Witnesses were Carsyn Hoppel, coach Ed Kurylak and superintendent Eric Lowe.

The Beavers won the match, 174-222. Hoppel had a 42, Mckenna Kyler 44, Reed McGeehan 44 and Bekah Kyler 46. Briggs had a 50.

Alexis Niemi had a 44 for the Crusaders.

Mineral Ridge 196, Sebring 229

NORTH BENTON–Mineral Ridge beat Sebring 196-229 Wednesday at berlin Lake.

Collin Baia led the Trojans with a 47. Also for Sebring, Gabe Lanzer and Jake Hunter each had 60, while Camden Green had a 62.

The Rams were led by Jake Sylak with a 38.

Sebring (0-10) is at Waterloo today.

Columbiana 151, United 190

NEW GARDEN–The Columbiana boys golf team bested United 151-190 Tuesday at Eagle Pass.

Leading the way for the Clippers were Jared Wilson and Seth Ross, both of whom shot 34. Nate Whitehead added a 39, while Tyler Anderson shot a 44.

Shane Black led the Eagles with a 41, while Jacob Times shot 46. Michael Bardo and Matthew Courtney each shot 50.

Ursuline 235

COLUMBIANA–The Columbiana girls golf team blew out Ursuline 169-235 Tuesday at Valley.

Taylor Ross and Taylor Bucci each shot 39 to lead the Clippers. Abby Rambo and Morgan Highley backed them up with scores of 44 and 47 respectively.
