Dukes deal Quakers first setback

SALEM — Salem’s girls soccer team lost for the first time this season as Marlington came away with a 3-1 victory on Monday at Reilly Stadium.

Salem is 8-1-1 and 3-1 in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.

Paige Bailey had Salem’s goal. Katelin Chilton had the assist.

Bailee Thorn had three saves in goal.

Marlington is 6-4 and 3-1.

Salem is at Minerva on Thursday.

West Branch 3, South Range 1

GREENFORD — Gillian Koneval scored twice and Hannah Ridgway added one more as West Branch beat South Range 3-1 on Monday in girls soccer play.

Olivia McLean and Haley Jones had assists for the Warriors, 7-5-0. Sam Plocher had four saves in goal.

West Branch is at Louisville on Wednesday.

West Branch won the jayvee match 8-1. Maci McLean had four goals for the Warriors, while Jillian Pidgeon added three more.

Crestview 5, Minerva 4

COLUMBIANA–Crestview edged Minerva 5-4 in girls soccer action Monday.

Kassity Miller poured in three goals to lead the Rebels. Morgan Cresanto and Jillian Beard each added one goal.

Beard added two assists. Emma Horne had one assist. Donna Finch registered 17 saves in goal. Taylor Mellington had nine saves.

For Minerva, Alyssa Markins had two goals, while Avrielle McGrew and Ekizabeth McCauley each had one assist. Gina Slentz had two saves in goal.

Wellsville 4,

Heartland Christian 3

WELLSVILLE–The Wellsville soccer team got its first win of the season by beating Heartland Christian 4-3 Monday.

Eli Dieringer scored two goals to lead the Tigers. Mitchell McIntosh and Cameron Betz each added one goal. Casey Lemasters registered one assist.

The Tigers, who are in their first year fielding a team, improve to 1-8-1 overall. They host United Wednesday.

Mineral Ridge 3,

Columbiana 1

COLUMBIANA–The Columbiana boys soccer team fell to Mineral Ridge 3-1 Monday.

The Rams improve to 8-2 overall. Gabe Heinrich scored the lone goal for the Clippers.

Springfield 9,

Valley Christian 0

NEW MIDDLETOWN–The Springfield girls soccer team recorded its seventh shutout of the season with a 9-0 win over Valley Christian Monday.

The Tigers improve to 9-2 overall.

Cierra Latronica led the Tigers with three goals while her sister, Gianna Latronica, added a goal and an assist.

Haley LaMorticella had two goals and an assist and Kylee Josek contributed a goal and two assists. Jenna Hatton added a goal and an assist. Anna Ohlin had a goal, while the Tigers got one assist each from Lexi Million, Kate Denmeade, and Laurel Blakeman. Lex Slike had two saves in goal.
