Quakers prevail in battle of unbeatens

NEW MIDDLETOWN — The Salem girls soccer team was on target as it turned back Springfield 3-1 in a battle of unbeatens on Monday night at Springfield Local High School.

Salem moved to 7-0. Quaker opponents have been limited to five goals all season.

Paige Bailey scored twice for Salem with Lydia McKee adding one more. McKee and Abi Hochadel had assists. Bailee Thorn had 15 saves in goal.

Springfield (6-1) came into the game with six straight wins to open the season. The Tigers scored at least 10 goals in all of those games.

Salem is at Hubbard on Thursday.

Springfield is at Crestview on Wednesday.

Springfield won the jayvee portion 2-0.

East Palestine 5, Columbiana 1

EAST PALESTINE — East Palestine’s Josh Welch had three goals and an assist to lead the Bulldogs to a 5-1 win over Columbiana on Monday.

Aymeric Leroy added a goal and two assists. Nick Garvin had a goal, while Brandon Turcola chipped in an assist.

Kyle Beckwith had a goal and Chris Costanzo added 18 saves for the Clippers.

East Palestine is 5-3 and 3-1-0 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Bulldogs are are Leetonia next Monday.

Dover 3, Minerva 0

MINERVA — Dover blanked Minerva’s girls soccer team 3-0 on Monday.

Sydney Ault had five saves for the Lions, 3-2-1.
