Big Red, South Range among top teams

COLUMBUS — South Range closed out the final Associated Press state media football poll with the No. 2 ranking in Div. V on Monday.

The Raiders (10-0) host Crestview (6-4) in the first round of the playoffs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Range beat Crestview 34-7 in a regular season game earlier this season. Pemberton Eastwood (10-0) won the Div. V poll championship.

Steubenville (10-0) took top honors in Div. IV. Big Red is on the hunt for its first state championship since 2006 and will open the tournament with a home contest against Salem (7-3) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Quakers have met Big Red in the playoffs two times, losing in 2009 and 2015.

Rootstown (10-0) finished fourth in Div. VI and will be hosting eighth seed Columbiana in a Region 21 contest on Friday. Columbiana (7-3) finished second in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.

Mogadore (8-1) took the eighth spot in Div. VI. The Wildcats, a historically strong program, host Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference champion East Palestine (8-2) on Friday.

Creston Norwayne, also a member of Region 21, was sixth in Div. VI. Western Reserve (8-2) will travel to Norwayne on Friday for its playoff opener.

In Div. VII, Region 25, three teams are ranked in the final AP poll. Dalton (10-0) finished as a runner-up in Div. VII. Cuyahoga Heights (8-1) took fifth, while East Canton was 13th.

Lisbon (6-4) opens Div. VII, Region 25 play at Windham on Friday.
