Western Reserve pulls off a stunner
MCDONALD — Western Reserve turned in a dramatic 13-8 victory over McDonald on Friday to create chaos in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference on Friday.
Todd Henning returned a kick 87 yards with 10 seconds left to seal the win for Reserve after McDonald had gone up 8-7 with 24 seconds left.
Western Reserve is 7-2 and 5-1 in the league, while McDonald fell to 7-2, 5-1. Springfield also has a share of the league as the Tigers are 5-1.
Ryan Demsky scored the winners’ first touchdown on a 21 yard pass from Dom Velasquez to open the scoring with 8:08 left in the third quarter.
Western Reserve only had 190 yards of total offense in the win.
Western Reserve can clinch a share of the title with a win at Jackson-Milton next Friday. McDonald closes the season at Lowellville. Springfield hosts Waterloo.
LOWELLVILLE –Springfield got back into the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference race with a 37-0 win over Lowellville on Friday.
The Tigers scored all 37 points in the first quarter.
Garret Walker caught a 40 yard score from Brannon Brundgard in the first quarter.
Walker led the team in recieving with 74 yards on 2 catches.
Brandon Brungard had 137 yards on 6 of 10 attempts with two touchdowns.
The Tigers had 268 yards of total offense while holding Loweville to only 88 yards.
The Tigers are 6-3 and 5-1 in the league. The Tigers can clinch a share of the title with a home win over Waterloo on Friday.
ATWATER–Sebring fell to Waterloo 42-8 in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference action on Friday night.
Sebring is now 0-9 on the season and will travel to Mineral Ridge to finish off the season.
