Blue Devils hold off Clippers in EOAC action

LISBON–The Lisbon boys basketball team emerged with a tight 53-52 victory over Columbiana in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference action Tuesday.

The Blue Devils improve to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the EOAC, while the Clippers drop to 1-4, 0-3.

Justin Sweeney did most of the scoring for Lisbon with 26 points, four assists and three steals. Branson Brownfield supplied 13 points and nine rebounds. Ryan McCullough had 10 rebounds.

For the Clippers, Jared Wilson led the way with 21 points. Seth Ross added nine points. Hunter Zentner had nine rebounds and four assists. Matt Mazei had seven rebounds.

Columbiana won the jayvee game 41-29. Chase Franken had 10 points for the Clippers. Adam Spencer had seven points for the Blue Devils.

HANOVERTON–The United boys basketball team remained unbeaten with a 60-49 win over Leetonia in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference action Tuesday.

Parker Hydrick led the Eagles (4-0) with 20 points, while Kaden Smith had 19 points and Dakota Hill 17 points. Alex Birtalan added nine rebounds.

Roman Ferry led the Bears with 15 points. Brock Simpson added 12 points.

The Eagles won the jayvee game 47-32. Keaton Baker and Nathan Pytash led United with 15 points each.

The Eagles are at Southern on Friday.

GREENFORD — Jaxon Anderson scored eight of his team-high 20 points in the third quarter when South Range put away Tallmadge, 66-56, Tuesday.

The Raiders led 33-26 at halftime and outscored the Blue Devils 16-9 in the third quarter.

Mike Cunningham added 12 points, Chris Brooks 11 and Brennan Toy and Ben Irons each had nine.

Tallmadge was led by Matt Francesconi with 27 points, 11 coming in the fourth quarter.

South Range will play at Youngstown Ursuline on Friday.

SEBRING — Western Reserve held Sebring to three points in the third quarter on the way to a 74-59 win Tuesday.

Jack Cappabianca totaled 15 points and nine rebounds and Kade Hilles had 15 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals to lead the Blue Devils. Cole DeZee added 11 points, Riley Miller nine points and Dom Velasquez eight rebounds.

Western Reserve improves to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference, while Sebring suffered its first loss to fall to 3-1 and 0-1.

The Blue Devils led 36-29 at halftime and widened the margin to 50-32 after three quarters.

Joey Clark topped the Trojans with 17 points. Gabe Lanzer followed with 15 points and four rebounds. Collin Baia had 11 points.

Western Reserve won the junior varsity game, 66-60. Noah Klasic and Austin Nabb each scored 16 points for the Blue Devils. Matt Byrd led Sebring with 23 points.

Both teams play Friday as Western Reserve hosts Mineral Ridge and Sebring visits Jackson-Milton.
