WELLSVILLE–A title was captured and a Clipper girls’ scoring record was broken during Columbiana’s 95-35 win over Wellsville on Monday night.

Columbiana (15-0, 11-0) gained at least a share of the inaugural Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference title with the win — the program’s fifth straight league title.

“It feels really good,” Columbiana senior Alexis Cross said. “Not many schools can say that as a senior you have won a league title all four years of high school. It shows how strong and good this program is.”

Columbiana holds a three game lead over Lisbon and United.

“After last year’s games it felt good to get the season sweep over Lisbon,” Cross said.

Columbiana’s Kayla Muslovski broke the Clippers girls varsity scoring record with 45 points on the night to add to the accolades.

“I didn’t know I was that close going into the fourth quarter,” Muslovski said. “I wouldn’t have been able to do this without my teammates. They made it happen for me tonight.”

Muslovski record breaks the previous mark set by Baylie Mook (42) in 2015.

“It’s a pleasure to have Kayla on this team,” Columbiana coach Ron Moschella said. “She’s a great kid and works hard. She is dedicated to basketball and dedicated to her teammates.”

To add to Muslvoski’s stat line she had five steals and four assists.

The Clippers started the game hot outscoring the Tigers 25-8 in the first frame mostly thanks to transition baskets.

Columbiana had 18 steals on the night.

“The kids played really well tonight,” Moschella said. “After Lisbon gave us a tough game it was great to see such a great performance from Muzzy.”

Muslovski had 12 points in the first quarter with eight of them coming in transition.

Columbiana also saw a strong performance from Kennedy Fullum who had 16 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and six steals.

“Fullum played extremely well,” Moschella said. “She can rebound the ball and take it up strong.”

Columbiana had 31 rebounds on the night.

“It means a lot to have a good rebounding night,” Moschella said. “McDonough (Marisa) and Fullum were really on the boards tonight. They make us go. If they aren’t grabbing boards we aren’t going anywhere.”

Columbiana’s McDonough and Cross each finished with five rebounds.

“We come out every night to try to better ourselves every night,” Cross said. “Hopefully we can get out of districts and make a run this year. South Range and Salem are good teams. We need to continue to get stronger so we can beat them.”

Wellsville is now 2-15 and 0-10 in league play this year.

“There was some spurts were we played good tonight,” Wellsville coach Ed Swogger said. “We played some good defense early on. Give credit to Columbiana they got hot really fast making a lot of shots.”

Wellsville fields a young team with only one senior in Menina Jackson this season.

“It’s tough,” Swogger said. “The freshman are used to being done at this point and we are trying to fight past that. We’ve been in a lot of games this year.”

Menina Jackson finished with eight points and seven rebounds.

Cameron Carlevale finished with 11 points for the Tigers.

“The league has been competitive this year outside of Columbiana,” Swogger said. “It’s tough to simulate pressure and speed in practice but it has been a great league for us this year.”

Wellsville will host United Thursday.

Columbiana will host Toronto on Wednesday.
