Warriors represent themselves well at North-South game

West Branch had a good showing in the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association’s North-South All-Star games Friday night.

Senior standouts T.J. DeShields and Natalie Zuchowski both scored in double figures during their respective North teams in the Division I-II games.

DeShields, the first West Branch boy to play in the game, collected 11 points with one three-pointer as the South posted a 125-115 win at Olentangy Liberty High School. Minerva’s Connor Wright did not score.

In the girls game, Zuchowski totaled 17 points in the North’s 95-93 loss at Denison University. She had a three-pointer and made both of her foul shots.

She is the fourth West Branch girl to play in the North-South game, joining Chris Clausnitzer (1988), Ashley Armstrong (2004) and Melinda Trimmer (2015).

West Branch girls coach Walt DeShields also was honored as the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association’s Division II coach of the year. He led the Warriors to a 22-0 regular season and a state poll championship.
